Doing some final browsing on my build and came across this. Been hearing quite a few people talk about it in the forums lately so here you go. |

Those benchmarks are decent but they're about in line with what I saw on a site yesterday posting leaks. The bottom line looks like that it's a decent card for $300 but if you got the extra money, get a factory overclocked 670. The galaxy GTX670 OC with the custom two fan setup seems to be the best bang for the buck right now. the Galaxy 670 beats the stock 680 speeds and for $100 less than a 680.
Between the $20 rebate for it plus I got extra points on my card for going through their site, I saved about $40 on the card. The thing that puzzles me is that the card looks like a 670 on paper but the 670 still beats it. What am I missing? After looking at the stock 670 specs as seen HERE there are a few places where the 670 is better than the 660ti but does bandwith and "ROPs" (whatever those are) really matter that much? I guess so. Interesting to see more confirmation that 660Ti is a GK104 card. (makes me wander what has happened to GK106)
The bottleneck in memory is going to leave this card trailing for 1080p+ with some AA. If they can price it against the 7870 (or at least under 7950) we got something interesting.

Yeah, it seems they aren't doing a mid-range chip and just going with 104 all the way down.
It's a good way to be awesome at the mid range, I guess. But that also means it costs them more. South of $300 seems very unlikely for the card. When you think about it...in this budget range 1080p is what matters. And it's obvious that the 7950's extra bandwidth doesn't help it against the 670 there. It's flat out worse in everything. That's why it had to drop in price. So we have the 7950 @ $350. The 670 @ $400 and the 7970 @ $450 With performance of 7970~>=670>>7950. I'm guessing rough performance parity between the 660Ti and 7950. If the 660Ti comes out at $300, more bad news for AMD...at $350 it'd likely be a personal preference thing. I'm leaning more toward the higher number for a release price...I don't think they'll want to leave such a gaping price hole between the 670 and 660Ti.

I'm still waiting out on other reviews. Many of those games like HAWX and Lost Planet overly favor Nvidia cards. At this point it could end up being slower or faster verse the 7950. After I got done with my rebate and selling my games off I got mine for $280. I'm happy with that as this card was going for $450 back in January. Shows how overpriced the AMD cards were. Shame they didn't do $350 and $450 originally. Would of sold a lot more IMO.
For the record I have mine overclocked to 1150MHz on the core. Thats a 44% boost. I never had a card that overclocked that much in terms of % before.

This gen is really ordered depending on user case
If = 1080P then 680 > 7970 = 670 > 7950 >= 660Ti If >1080P + AA then 680 > 7970 > 670 = 7950 > 660Ti If >1080P + AA + overclocking then 7970 >= 680 > 7950 >= 670 > 660Ti Its overclocking that really makes a big difference to AMD vs Nvidia atm, since basically all the reviews we see the GK104 cards are overclocked due to the turbo (all the ones i have seen being massively over the guaranteed max clocks), and it seems they don't really do much more than this when overclocking them manually. But Tahiti cards all seem to be nice overclockers but mostly compared to Nvidia at factory clocks. Reviewers really need to review at Guaranteed max clocks, and max stable overclocks/turbo.

I wouldn't be shocked to see higher clocked AMD cards coming from the 660 Ti launch. Not GHz, but 950MHz maybe. These cards wouldn't of looked, so bad had AMD not clocked them so low.

Well, Mutant, Nvidia card are also often overclocked right out of the factories.
I always buy the factory overclocked ones because hey, in some cases (Like the Galaxy 670 GC) they come both with the clock speeds of the next card up (Like the 680) and they have good warranties (My new Galaxy has a 3 year warranty). Tack on the turbo boost and these nvidia cards are amazing (Newegg's own video review of the Galaxy 670 GC said it got as high as 1280MHz for them by itself). I'm a Nvidia fanboy so I don't know much about AMD cards but these Nvidia cards are doing very very well in the overclocking department and crushing most games today compared to their rivals in benchmarks. |

Neither company crushes either in most games, unless you want to look at ones I mentioned like HAWX 2 and Lost Planet 2. AMD wins some games, Nvidia wins others, and they tie some.

Comparing stock to overclocked is not a sound strategy. Nor is comparing something that's be artificially limited to one that has not.

I can't imagine it selling for more than $350 otherwise the smart buyers will jut get the overclocked 670s. Personally, I wouldn't touch it for more than $300. Nvidia likes to aim for $250 to $300 when doing their mid-range cards and to do this to a perfectly good GPU should cost them bucks from customers. |
