I've been looking forward to it for so long but it just doesn't do anything for me. What lets it down is it doesn't feel like Planetside and the gameplay just isn't good enough to make it better than other FPS games. The only saving grace is it's F2P so I'm sure it'll be popular on the back that you never have to pay, however my issue is time, not money.
I really hope the NDA isn't a sign that the game will go live soon because it is no where ready, however SOE have a history of rushing releases and I'm guessing they still haven't learnt by these actions. The other major problem for me is my Planetside mates who I planned to play this game with all hate it as well. So really there is less incentive for me to play it without anybody I know because a game like this is boring solo. - The textures are piss poor, the graphics are a real big let down and the over use of light just drowns out the UI. - The UI sucks, it's a complete mess, it isn't intuitive at all and it's an over complex design for something that really offers very little diversity. - I'm not a fan of the class system, again like above I think it just restricts you, you cannot mix roles any more and I hate that. - TTK is too quick, it's too hard to get a group together and stick together because someone is always dying now. - Vehicles feel so weak and the control really badly, I hate the way aircraft control, they aren't intuitive like BF3 or PS, they just feel like a mess. - I hate the base design they're too open, too hard to defend so the fights are over in minutes. They feel like such a mess of a design and the buildings are so copy and pasted that it's hard to find the vehicle terms and stuff like that. After all this time playing I still struggle to work out where I am in a base and where to find stuff. - Vehicle camping doorways is worse than Planetside. Again because there are no doors and the buildings are so small and open you'll just be shot through them all the time. - Too many particle effects, like GW2 I cannot see what the heck is going on, especially at night where it's just lighting over powering everything. - The Island design is poor, it's so hard to negotiate the terrain now that you'll want to pick and aircraft to fly to an objective instead. - Sound design is weak, I'd go as far to say it's the worst I have heard in a long time. It's like the sound was done by someone in the 90s, it is so weak, especially the ATV that sounds as if it's changing gears constantly. I could go on and on about what I hate about this game but most of all the guns feel far too inaccurate and they're far too big on the screen, FOV doesn't seem to change them. The TR have the best feeling weapons as it doesn't feeling like you're spamming a general direction but even then the guns are floaty as hell. I had to tweak my mouse DPI and the mouse sensitivity to the lowest just to get it feeling right. Turning and looking around just has no weight to it, it's too floaty and horrible, yet movement feels nice and weighty. Just so disappointed, it doesn't feel like Planetside, it really is like they tried to emulate Battlefield but failed and created this weird average game where the only good thing about it is the open seamless maps. However the battles are so fast you never see massive battles, you see a lot of particle effects and screen shake but I've never had that base raid moment like in Planetside. There is way too much fog, in this day and age I should be able to turn it all off and the islands are mostly empty. Where are the urban areas we all wanted in Planetside and never got and wanted in Planetside 2 and still haven't got. I was looking forward to fighting in this giant bases but it turns out they're tiny really, most if it is just show with hardly any indoor area. The other weird problem I have is the scaling seems really off, everything looks out of scale to the point it feels like Honey I shrunk the kids or something. It all just feels so fake and horrible looking......... After all this time waiting I just feel like humph... lol. |

I disagree with most of these but can't really be bothered to type all this out. So I'm just going to say one thing, how can you say you liked air in PS? It has to be one of the worst flight models in any video game.

I just hate the controls of aircrafts and I hate how they handle, I mean you can move horizontally perfectly using A and D which is weird. They feel like you can hover above the ground and yet if you slow down you just fall out of the sky. The game never gives you the feel of any lift of physics, it feels like Planetside's but it isn't which is a weird feeling. Yup there is FoV change...... What I'm saying is the guns are too big even when you change the FoV. Half the time my camera in third person on a vehicle is zoomed right in with no way to adjust. |

I agree with many things. Flying is terrible. I need to fly again after yesterdays patch. They purposely made flying complicated when it could be simple and fun. I think the reason was to make it stupid and annoying so only a few people would fly and get good at it.
fighting sucks atm. Again, I have to see after yesterdays patch. Its so random that its boring. Finding big battles isnt easy, when you do find it, the fps die. On top of that spawn system sucks balls. Again, they said more spawn locations are coming. Vehicle spawn times suck. running for 5 minutes to get to a fight is very annoying. On top of that spawning a quad bike and auto spawn destroy glitched dosnt help. Now I have to wait 300 seconds. Traveling sucks because its so restricted. I should be able to spawn vehicles whenever I want. With resources the only limiting factor. I can only afford medium settings. In medium graphics suck. The only way to see the beautiful side of the game is by having a tricked out system. So seeing all the nice stuff on streams dosnt mean you will get it too. The game is very, very buggy. It will take many months before its even decent. The recent patches brought in so many more bugs. Again, its early beta, so lots need to change. In the end, I just find the game very boring. I disagree with most but I have to ask why you are complaining about people dying in a war game? TTK feels just right to me. If someone gets the jump on someone, it should be very difficult for that person to whip around and kill them. TTK was ridiculously long in PS.
Also, flying is awesome. It does not take long to learn to fly AND land.

Yep, I didn't like it either.
Wasn't engaging, gunplay was terrible, and sense of progress or goals was negligible. But I'm also having a hard time just testing it due to lack of optimization. Weird frame rate drops and unexpected freezes are still commonplace, and make for a frustrating experience as I can run any other game just fine. I'll come back in a month or two and see if it's to a point where I can even contribute as a tester. |

I'm also not a huge fan of the gunplay, though. Hardcore guys are gonna hate, but I'm just used to meatier combat, period. Seems...hollow. Kind of in a wierd spot between real life TTK and longer ones like halo. Just ends up being strange, I never feel that it comes down to ability. I would suggest a slightly longer TTK with much more accurate guns (when in ADS). At this point ADS is barely more accurate than hipfire, with a huge sacrifice in movement. It feels like subby gunplay at the moment. Don't get me wrong though, I do enjoy the game a lot. Last edited by OnexBigxHebrew; 2012-08-31 at 01:03 PM. |

If you're simply having performance issues, nothing can be done short of attempting to tweak your system or upgrading, but optimization is coming.
Keep in mind that you are just testing the game and there is bugs and imbalances. If you're with a good outfit and having fun, the game is fucking awesome. I've been having a BLAST.

I'd offer the advice given above, don't play right now, try again in a few weeks or months. For me the Zurvan changes have made a big difference on my outlook. Now, we can see a base that is defendable and if you're going to take it as an attacker you have to fight hard and use strategy. I few days ago I was mourning the end of the old gal drops, but in one fell swoop the Zurvan changes have given a reason for assault gal drops. |

In conclusion, most your stuff is purely subjective and a lot of it fails to take into consideration that this is not a finished product. In fact, it's quite some way from being a finished product. Also... It's not "PlanetSide". It's "PlanetSide 2". According to the devs, it was never intended to "feel like" Planetside 1, except in the regard of large battles and the loose theme of those battles. The game DOES have legitimate issues at present, but these are mostly in regard to it not being a finished product and still needing a lot of testing. In the relatively short time I've been participating in the Beta, they uprooted entire game mechanics and tried out new stuff to try to get a better, more persistent, "feel" to the game. It's a little early to place judgment on it. Too much is changing, especially now. At present PS2 is twice the game it was a week ago, and ten times the game it was during the tech test. They're going the correct direction with it. Making a multi-million dollar piece of digital entertainment doesn't happen overnight. It will be several months before the game is ready for "sale". |
