registered ram - its used in servers and the like and in motherboards that need registered sticks of ram iirc - no point in buying them for home use unless the mobo definitely needs them.

just go for non-ecc non-reg stuff and you'll be fine

use crucials system compatibility check to find out what ram works with your mobo/system

no, some motherboards dont like it, some do, some other sticks of ram dont like operating along side ECC ram, also it limits their overclocking ability etc.

you would be much better off buying non ecc stuff. Also the fact that you will be paying for a feature that your motherboard will most likely not support, it is intended for use in servers in checking errors and correcting them (hence Error Checking and Correction) save the money, you can put it towards planetside subscription

If you want the most intense gaming x-perience with the most uber RAM out there, buy Corsair.

Mushkin!

I have a stick of the 512 2-2-2 pc2100. I like it quite a bit, i'd like to get a second stick, but mushkin has it on backorder right now.

basically all ram is not created equal. Some people say "I spent $80 for 512 of pc2700, why would you spend $140?" Well, for $80 it was probably CAS3 or maybe 2.5 and the 140 was CAS2. That is latency and basically it boils down to cas2 will outperform cas3 ram. Not to mention you want lower latency ram for overclocking purposes
