Hey all.
I have a problem. I love flying in games, but in PS2 I basically can't do more than stay in the air long enough to transport myself. Why? Because I am forced to use a certain control layout that is opposite to anything my brain has been practicing for years and years. When I fly I need my yaw-control to be mapped to mouse axis X. Rolling is usually mapped to A and D on the keyboard. Pitch on mouse axis Y (as it currently is by default). Currently there seems to be no way to do this in PS2. If you aren't satisfied with using your mouse to roll then you don't get to use the mouse for anything apparently... I'm temped to make a "NO MOUSE FOR YOU!" soupnazi joke here... So you can either stick with the default controls, or fly by keyboard alone. Neither of those seem very appealing, so here is what I'm asking: (1) Is there some way that I am just not aware of that would allow you to map the yaw of the flyer to the mouse X-axis? I'm fairly sure its not possible to set in the game itself after having tried everything I could think of - but maybe somehow it is possible to manually edit the controls config file or something? I'm thinking that if the config file can describe that the pitch is mapped to one mouse axis then it should be possible to map something else to another axis? ... unless it is somehow hardcoded into the game (geez that would be stupid wouldn't it?) (2) If there is no other solution then perhaps it is possible to work around the problem by emulating a virtual joystick-device that is controlled by mouse movements? I am fairly sure that I have seen something like this being possible. That should make it possible to bypass the restriction indirectly... but I'm not sure what software would be suitable to use for this. I'm hoping that this post will maybe draw the attention of people who find themselves in the same dilemma as me so we can band together for a solution. I want to fly damnit! ... help me! -Stigma |

Hm,well, at least i can confirm from my flying with stick that the yaw axis does support analog input, some people seem to have problem with it though,maybe a bug?
Anyways, i guess that means that at least in theory it should be possible, since yaw is not restricted to digital "on off" input, like in some other games. But i have no idea what program could do that, i never thought about it,i just use a stick. Anyways, i am not convinced that this layout would work very well, roll control is kinda important in PS2, limiting it to digital "on off" input would make flying very inprecise.

What you have to remember is that either control scheme uses 2 analogue controls (pitch/yaw in my case, and roll/pitch as default), while the third is digital in either case unless you use a flightstick with a twist-handle or something. IMO it isn't very important to roll super presicion as that is typically something you do as part of a macro-scale manouver anyway. As long as I can rool at maximum rolling speed and stop rolling roughly where I need to then that is more than good enough for me. Having fine-control on the yaw on the other hand is important in aiming and with the default scheme you will be forced to use digital yaw controls to get that crosshair over the target - and that isn't always easy. -Stigma |

yea i would love to have yaw on my mouse, i have foot pedals for rolling, but their keybinding set-up is so dam terrible and not been able to rebind an axis is absolutely appalling for a PC game.
