So, I purchased the command chat cert and love it. Worked with Devil Dogs/PG/etc enough with it that it made me want to start an outfit of my own so I can help out better rather than using a squad of randoms.
But something in the back of my mind kept wondering how long this would go without problems. And surely enough that question was finally answered tonight. NC on Connery were yelling at each other over the command chat VOIP and spamming /leader with messages to each other. One guy kept assuming the role of 'leader of the NC' while others kept fighting with him. It goes without saying absolutely nothing of value was gained or lost. I guess it was just the odd time (midnight) so the majority of the 'main' collaborating player base was probably in bed. But it was pretty amazing the heights to which this drama soared, from people calling each other ignorant cocks to false prophets and/or leaders. Have any of you experienced this yet on your server/faction? Last edited by RykerStruvian; 2012-12-03 at 02:20 AM. |

A little bit on Mattherson last night... TR were debating how to take Mao in /leader I said I was going to take a shield diffuser with a full squad to take out the enemy sundys and it spawned an argument over wether it would work. From there it went to whether it was worth it to continue the 2 hour battle for Mao. Needless to say 20 minutes later when I had enough resources for a Sundy (Had to switch to Amerish) I came back with my squad and after two trips through their shield, which took about 5 minutes, we had all but obliterated the NC forces at Mao. I proved some people in /leader wrong.
If an argument gets out of hand there is always /ignore. |

If this have happend all the time during the last 6000 years, as long as we have any records of political events in the human history. What makes you think it won't happen in a game? This is nothing about the game design. It's human nature. If you don't want to experience this you need to become an eremite. |

I've only heard vague mumbles on the voip leader chat - and far better that way imho. I have enough people speaking in my ear without that being added.
Voip command chat is a very bad idea. Command chat in it's totality is not that well done, as yet, hopefully. |

Agree with hillfort. But then... Who would have guessed...
On Miller NC leader chat is not used much yet, the command one not at all really. We do want to reinstate Werner NC way of /c chat rules, with votings and all, but really, there is relatively little point atm and most people seem to realise that as well. Squad leaders are a different bunch of people than experienced longterm cont/global leaders. An they are not to be expected to understand the diplomacy involved and that they are just one of many potential leaders. Either way, participation rate is too low so far. |

Being a VS on Werner (Miller), we are fortunate to have enrico back directing the troops. Coupled with Basti`s Vanu alliance things are looking good for us.
This however is a major concern! Its far far too easy to get into command and this will be one of the next major issues if it doesnt get addressed. Command skill unlock should be the HIGHEST cert required skill in the game. It shoùld take around 5 000 maybe even 10 000 certs to unlock. Why ? To stop 100 Roamcell`s from gaining access after a day`s play thats why! In the coming weeks we can be assured of command being plagued by silly comments/orders and just being spammed in general. Its only going to get worse with it being so cheap. |

Of course it is. If something like the command chat is cheap in certs, people who are not dedicated to leading are just going to use if without the proper knowledge, because they can. If you raise the cost, you will only have people there who mean it and by that are far more likely to know what they are doing. It's all about gamedesign in a game. always. You just have to figure out how to design it.

In my experience command chats generally are full of "ignorant cocks to false prophets and/or leaders."
When you have a small group of them they cant help but to get something done and they all feel special. When you get a larger group their obvious failures start to be mentioned and the lack of pretense makes the communication ineffective.

I'm on Connery here. I have the command chat but honestly I have it turned off. I honestly don't care to hear what some 13 year old has to say and I have yet to find a need to put something in it. Give it another month or two and everybody will have it. Before you know it, it'll be PS1 all over again with that being the default channel everybody and their mother feels they need to talk in.

The command chat -does- have its uses. I mean, the main outfits which play NC side do use the command chat as a quick way for us to talk to each other, and those people are the outfits I haven't had problems with it at all. It was just an isolated scenario I hope. But regardless I'm going to start being a bitch and using the /report fuction whenever this crops up.
I don't like to think the best way to deal with this is to simply ignore the channel altogether. It has its uses and can be -very- beneficial. I guess I just wish everyone shared that view and take their pissing contests to /tells :s |
