Lightning tank gun

Hey guys,

so i'd like to cert out my lightning, but i cant decide between the HE and the HEAT gun.
I'm really torn about which one to cert out since it takes a lot of certs to max everything. So far i have the HE gun and from using the 30min trial on the HEAT i couldnt see much of a difference.
Maybe one of you has played with both guns and could list some pros/cons? Which one would you pick and why?
Thanks.

I'd say it all depends what role you wish to play in your Lightning. I haven't actually tried out a HE turret (I like being able to take on vehicles), so someone else might have to fill in the non-theoretical details i've missed, pro/con-wise, of using a HE turret.

But if you want to go purely anti-infantry, go HE. If you want to be able to take out infantry, but also vehicles, go HEAT.

HEAT is still very good against infantry, but you need decent aim (which I assume you have from what you've said) and you'll have to keep refilling your ammo, since you can pretty much only take out one target at a time (unless they're sitting in each other's laps).

HE is a lot better for groups of infantry, or infantry hold up in buildings, but not so good if you happen across a vehicle, or if you're just taking out random single targets (although you do have a lot more margin for error on your aim because of the blast size).

I play my Lightning as a long range "sniper" type, as well as taking out other Lightnings, and flanking around to hunt down Sundies. For this, HEAT is perfect.

HE is epic for killing infantry - a blast to drive.

HEAT has a smaller OHK radius(may be direct hits only) but does more damage vs. vehicles. It's just a general purpose balanced option.

HE doesn't seem to be too bad vs. armor, it's probably fine to use on a lightning because you can just run from MBTs rather than having to fight them directly.

HE with infrared optics is really mean at killing infantry.
Haven't tried Heat but If it is like the prowler comparison between HE and Heat it's a more general purpose round that has less splash radius but more efficient against armour.

HE still does decent damage if you hit MBT's from behind

It doesn't have to direct hits, but your margin for error is only (at a random guess) about a metre or two at most. In my experience if you hit at their feet, or the wall directly behind them, it'll still get them.

AP rounds, on the other hand, are direct hits only on infantry.
