can you shoot pilots in ESF etc?

not really new here, but this is something that i don't know: is it possible to shoot and kill a pilot, or at least damage a pilot while they are in an ESF/galaxy/liberator etc? because i know you can damage ESF with gunfire, but at times i have shot the cockpit and idk if i actually did damage to the pilot or not. obviously i know you can damage someone on a flash, i just want to know if you can damage people in ESFs like in games like Battlefield.

I *think* that while in a vehicle, the occupant is immune from damage. This is the case for Sundies and tanks... IDK why this would be different for ESFs / gals / libs

okay, thanks. but it would be cool if you could; gives an infantry man or a sniper at least a small chance at taking one down :/

With all the fire that gets directed towards ESFs all the time, no it would not be cool. Then the moment you point your nose at anything for a gun run, they can just pop off a few shots from any handheld weapon and kill you. ESFs are already pretty weak. Snipers don't need to be able to singlehandedly take down ESFs.

Also, Battlefield has a bit of a problem when it comes to camping landed helis and jets with a sniper rifle.

true... i see your point, and i agree. taking off in a chopper only to get sniped, and then respawn into it again to get sniped in BFBC2 was annoying....

Yeah, as CrispyHaze said, ESFs are so damn weak at the moment and I hope they do something about it. As for shooting the pilot on cockpit, I wouldn't agree with it. I mean, it's pretty nice to use a wallpaper with a TR Light Assault breaking the glass of a Reaver and killing its pilot, but in-game it wouldn't be nice. Ah, you can hit aircraft with some infantary guns, like LMGs or the "special gun" for HA, for example the Mini-chaingun from TR. Not sure, but I guess bolt-action and semi-auto sniper rifles too. Carbines and pistols are too weak to deal damage on aircraft.
Plus we can just say, if you need anything like this to be in the history of the game, that the glass of aircraft is made of a new fusion that's really strong and can't be break that easy. :P

Not a good idea; ESF pilots have enough people shooting at them already; the last thing they want is to be randomly killed by a fluke shot from some sniper camping in the hills.

II would hate to see this implemented. There's nothing dumbed in Battlefield 3 (or any other one) than sniping someone out of the pilots seat. Such a stupid, overpowered ability for infantry.
