I've always just used Adobe After Effects. It is really flexible.

I had a hell of a time trying to figure that program out
I gave up after awhile, it did not seem very user friendly.

Well.. you could try adobe Premiere, I think that is a little geared more towards straight up video editing when compared to after effects.

Adobe Premiere is the best I find.

If your looking for something easier try Studio DV, Video Factory, Videowave, MainActor, Windows Movie Maker.

I will have to try Adobe Premiere and see how that is.

I first have to figure out how to record from my PC to something to capture the battles as they happen

speaking of video editing, i have a bunch of 650-750 mb avi movies, how can i get those to fit on a vcd, or, if i have to split them, what's a good program that can split movies clean in half?

I like iMovie, but that's more for video cameras.
