Reformatting Hard Drive

A friend of mine recently reformatted his hard drive and has had alot of problems with it since. My 20gig HD is totally cluttered with useless stuff and I was going to reformat it untill I heard from my friend that it can cause problems.

Is there something he possibly did wrong that caused the problems? Is there a certain way I should go about reformatting my HD so that I dont have similar problems? Should I even reformat at all?

When you install a brand new system, it is vital that you format your hard drive. THis gives the new mobo a fresh slate to have drivers installed. It will save you a lot of headache also.

Well, some of the newer (bigger then 127GB HDs) have issues without using the most updated tools, but otherwise, formatting is fairly simple and something you should do on a semi-anual basis.
