I know this has been lifted back up more than Micheal Jackson's nose, but I've never seen a definitive answer. Why are the dev's so set on having a very fast paced game? I know they want it to be exciting and all, but why are they forcing you to play their way (other than the fact it's their game )? They took out the prone position (no need to start that up) and there is no real penalty for an entire galaxy crew just to bail out and let it crash. In my mind there are two types of players, twitchy fast shooters like in Unreal and quake, and methodical players like in SWAT and AA. This games whole concept really leans itself to the massive fast combat just because of all the vehicles and crazy things they've implemented, so there is no chance of the pace slowing down for anyone. My question is why are they making the second type of player play a different style. I have to say that a well coordinated, methodical squad may take 5-10 minutes longer to get to a base, but they'll do alot more damage on the way and once they get there than will a squad (however well planned) who just hauls A to get there. I don't see why you can't have your pie and eat it too here. I've said this before but, that guy who holds up the whole round in other games, doesn't hold it up because he's prone, or trying to land his plane; he holds it up because he's scared to die (besides, it's not turn based so who is he *really* holding up/hurting?). There is no real reason to be scared of dying in this game at all (at least not as long as there is a pilot around).
Anyway, I'd like to get all of your intelligent imputs. (I don't think I could pull that off on another board we all now ) NAV

It isn't a face paced game. Just because there isn't prone or people can assault bases from above doesn't mean it's fast paced. These maps/continents are enormous. Things will take awhile to achieve but battles in any fps should never be slow. Everything else could be but not the battles themselves. If the fighting was slow no one would ever play it.

The reason is simple: action.
I play strategy games. I like RPGs. I don't mind downtime as long as there's something to do. EQ was HORRIBLE in downtime. If you were not a Wizard or a Druid, you had to run somewhere... if you wanted to save time, you'd have to find one to port you. Depending on where you are for both examples, you may end up having hours of waiting in between "action." A good many people joining PS are tacticians, like the squad type settings (like myself), and want to do things the methodical way. That's great! But why wait? I would h8 to have wait 10-20 minutes to get back to somewhere if I died in battle. So would the majority (dare I say the entirety?) of the gaming population agrees with me on that. The prone position just promotes what I call "Trench Warz." This involves a lot of sitting around, waiting for someone else to come so you can shoot at them at your leisure while you can effectively "dodge" bullets due to your much smaller area. Make sense?

......hmmmmm.......the number one arguement I heard for taking out prone was to speed up gameplay. If the game isn't fast paced (I'm kinda thinking it is) then what's all the stress for? What would they take out prone for? Could you give me a reason why this game might be slow (assuming something changed)? I can't see anyway that a game with vehicles would be slow, besides there's enough crazy/impatient people that it would all hit the fan once one of them got in a plane...
let me know (THANK YOU HAMMA FOR AN EDIT BUTTON)

All the stress is about satisfaction in kicking other player's asses!... that and it helps boost your self confidence... also it helps show how well you work with others so that the commanders can weed out all the annoying children.

I don't think there should be long waits between deaths or anything either. Also in a game where you can be almost anything, just get a plane cert if you want to get somewhere. I guess it seems to me that the game will just get hectic and become one giant melee.
My idea for the prone thing was that only the smallest 2 armors could even go prone, just for defense. Other wise those guys are kinda just target practice seeing as how they can't sling the heat with the big boys. I doubt the rest of their squad will stop while they go prone. I don't really care about the prone thing (I mean I'd like to see it happen, but I doubt it will so I can accept that), but what I'm worried about is that this will become a gigantic game of unreal. There aren't really any consequences for anything, and in that aspect of the game they didn't seem to limit anything so why then did they take out prone (ie why did they target *that*)? I guess I kinda am worried that everyone will have a battle plan at the start, but once they die and respawn it'll just be everyman for himself. I guess we'll find out when the game comes out. I've just been looking for a FPS with *real* teamwork, and this one sounds like it could be it. Also Diluted, If I wanted a frag fest I'd pop in U2K3. I don't. I don't want to pay a monthly fee just for a senseless fragathon. I want a deeper more immersive experience that it looks like PS can offer. Did you just call me close minded? YOU TALKIN TO ME?
