Author Topic: European community demands answers
xNLxNazgul Station Member Registered: Feb 2001 posted 04-13-2003 06:03 PM user search report post -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We europeans (NOT counting UK) have been deliberately decieved in thinking we'd be allowed to join the beta. Never once have the devs made clear that we wouldnt be in (they had plenty of time figuring who to let in and who not) and by shamefully allowing us to sign up and cling to the hope of being accepted they have kept us coming back to check. (at some level the people from australia and region have been left in the dark as well) Hell, it took more then a week after the final beta emails were sent for us to hear the truth, all to keep us coming back and increasing their chances of making money. I find this the most disgusting marketing scam i have EVER heard about. We are NOT angry by being left out of the beta, merely annoyed as anyone would be when left out. We are pissed at the devs for allowing such a cheap trick being used on us. If they publicly (as newsitem or in the forums) apologise to the ones left in the dark for no good reason we'd accept it and move on. If they fail to do this i will have lost EVERY bit of faith in the devs to do the right thing in any coming situation. At the very least they can come up with some sort of explanation/excuse. Personally the dent in my trust for the devs may cause me to look somewhere else for my gaming needs, too often has this sort of behaviour resulted in badly run MMOGs. mmmm.... okay... SmokeJumperPS Station Admin Registered: Sep 2001 posted 04-14-2003 03:03 PM user search report post -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I understand that you think we attempted to deceive you. However, I don't believe that occurred. No decisions were made about Europeans involved in the beta test until we made the Open Beta selections about two weeks ago. The only reason that UK was included, and not the rest of Europe, was that the UK was guaranteed to understand English...which is the only language we currently support. (Localizations will happen soon, but are not yet available.) We wanted to test with Europeans connecting to servers "across the pond" but we didn't feel we were ready for a full European continent test. If the test with the UK folks goes well, we'll work on including more Europeans at a later time, but we do this stuff in baby steps, whenever possible. I hope this helps you understand the process a bit more. No slight against "mainland Europe" was, or is, intended. It's a purely logistical decision. http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/p.../005769-3.html

I know Ill probably get flamed for this, but IMHO I dont wanna see any messages on the chat in anything but English.
Not that I have anything against other languages, but Ive seen MMO games divided because of this issue. I want to be able to understand what your saying, if your speaking Swahealee how can I tell you your about to get smoked by that MAX crawlin up your butt.. alph |

Yeah very nice of him to respond to that topic regardless of the major(!) flaming that was going on. Nice to finally have an answer to why we (the Dutchies) weren't allowed in
I can somehow understand the reason, although the Dutch are known for being the best english speaking people in Europe (besides the U.K. and Ireland of course) But they're right, especially the bigger countries like germany and france have more problems with it. And it's true, nothing more annoying then a group of people happily chatting away in their own language on a shared server like it is in a MMOG. |

Hello how are you ?? fine ?? Good for you, because I'm a bit hangry because of a stupid guy who said French are asshole and this and that... and they should'nt get the game because of their country and there position about this war.
But this guy forget that we are just talking about a game here and no about politics. I hope he's the lonely one to think like that. Thank you. Et surtout, bon baiser de France les loulouttes.

Yea, I'm glad SmokeJumper replied to this as well. I think he did a good job of explaining it.
When I participated in the PSU Outfit Roundtable, I paid special attention to what the leaders from continents other than North America had to say about PlanetSide. It was interesting to get their perspective. I think I remember Serbitar saying how they didn't want PS to go by the wayside of T2 in Germany. He said that there was little advertisement or promotion and that T2 wasn't as popular as it could be in Germany. I hope that the PS team makes sure to give these people what they want and deserve. They want to feel just as included as the rest of the world. And an honest answer to their questions. As far as the anti-French attitude, go to the Political debate forum. This isn't the place. |
