I can totally tell the difference when I see a skilled vanu player and a not-so-skilled one. It seems like it is the not-so-skilled players that must be complaining alot, cause when I come across a skilled one I don't stand a chance. I play as a TR pounder max most of the time, and even with my 'overpowered' weapons it doesn't make a difference if the vanu i'm fighting knows what to do and how to do it. It is sad however that those kind of vanu are rare and far between.

I know, Pyro! Whenever I fight those overpowered TR with my lasher and lancer, they always end up in a spawn tube.
Personally I think, at least for the two roles I play (HA/AV infantry and Magrider commander) the Vanu are fine. Since I think running people over in a combat vehicle is pretty stupid, I sometimes wish the magrider had better options versus infantry, but I can live with its current incarnation.

As far as Vanu are concerned, I think versatility as a focus is kind of in the wrong direction.
TR has fast weapons with higher rate of fire. NC has slower weapons but more firepower. So I think if VS is supposed to be versatile I would classify versatile as their weapons being either accurate, which the lancer and an improved pulsar could go under. The pulsar wouldn't have the firepower of a gauss or the rof of a cycler but its CoF wouldn't be as bad and would make it more useful in field skirmishes(I haven't used the pulsar since open beta and I don't ever remember dying to one when I have a gauss in retail...). The other half of the "versatility" of Vanu weapons would be weapons like the lasher with a good spread, but move faster! The only time I owned with a Lasher was when I snagged one off a dead VS player and started pumping orbs into one of their AMS's with 15 VS players standing around the EQ terminal. I don't know anything anyway |
