I was wondering if selling accounts is allowed? I know that SOE already condemns it and polices ebay, but I constantly see accounts on ebay still selling on ebay. Granted they are pretty much crap accounts with a BR7 or so on it and only selling for 5 bucks, but why should a good account not be allowed to sell on there and even the crappiest of all accounts still "somehow" get by unnoticed?
There are multiple other sites set up specifically for selling EQ accounts and items, and none of the other large MMORPG's seem to police ebay. Getting rid of a BR20 CR3, BR14, BR13 account shouldn't be any different than selling a BR5 account as long as all software is removed from the previous owners system. |

This no selling accounts is purely a financial matter for them. A person that buys a BR19 account will play maybe what? A month or two and become bored?
A newbie will play 4 or 5 months before becomming either bored or whatever. If they thought there was a profit in selling accounts, for themselves of course, not you, then they'd be all over it. Also doesn't matter that they are policing ebay. Ebay doesn't see anything wrong with it and will continue to allow it. My advice is don't show any pictures on ebay that has your account name, and specify that the user must contact you personally for account details other than BR and certs. If SOE turns out to be a bidder than contacts you, and then shuts your account down, then they have fraudulently bid on ebay which is illegal. But of course in my opinion this is no different from the music industry trying to sue individuals who pirate music. |

I don't see how a person staying a month or two would hurt them any more than people who buy the game, hate it and then get stuck with a game that they spent 50 bucks on. The only thing that does is make the person angry at SoE and not want to participate in any more of their stupid rules.
On the other hand, selling the account to another person that gets to start already a good portion into the game with a signifigant advantage over other people can't be bad to them. If they do stay for those one, two, or even three months upwards it only nets them money from someone who potentially might skip over this game not wanting to start at the basic crap level everyone else starts at. Ebay actually already removed my auction from their listings on grounds that Sony had contacted them on copyright infringement. Ebay said that if I relisted the item my ebay account could be banned. Wondering how I was infringing on copyright laws I've of course written to the address ebay provided and, of course, have yet to hear back from SOE. The thing that makes me the most annoyed is that I have seen several accounts go by and sell and there are still some posted currently that have been up for almost 5 days that never got removed. Anyways, if anyone knows someone looking for an "advanced" account, they can PM me and we can talk. |

since Planetside is more of a skill based, game, i don;t think many people would be interested in buying accounts.
An account of BR20, CR5 will not make you able to kill a BR2 guy if the BR2 knows what he is doing. All you are buying is certs you woulda have gained in a few weeks of playing anyway. |

There is actually no way they can "catch" you selling it unless in fact they are the buyer in which case you would already have their money anyways. Anyone who actually says their account name or station log in before the transaction has gone through is kinda stupid and probably deserves to lose their account.
Like I said, people have been selling their accounts quietly on ebay along with used PS software and even have it right in the descriptions and they don't seem to make a big deal about it. However, if you put that you are selling your account with it in the title, they get offended and threaten to have ebay block your account for copyright infringement. Anyways, my offer of a nice account still stands for any PM's. |

I agree with those above.. why would anybody actually want to buy an account ?
Sure, it's nice accumulating BR and CR, and gaining more certs, but you gain levels pretty quickly anyway. You don't gain any huge advantages from rank.. I suppose some might want to jump quickly to CR4 or CR5 but "command" in PS has no real clout. On Werner (VS) there's only one I pay any attention to..the others are pretty useless. I can only assume that's why accounts are being sold with the game - the purchaser is sharing the common mistake that just because PS has a subscription payable, it's an RPG. |

Quite frankly they don't need to catch you to cancel your account. They can cancel your account at any time because it's not your account and you agree to that everytime you start the program

I was thinking about listing it on that site, but it doesn't really have a great selection for people looking for much else besides everquest.
I was browsing over ebay today and I noticed that there are about 200 SWG auctions happening for creds and accounts already. Since both PS and SWG is owned by SoE, why is only one being actively disturbed? Last edited by NarutoZX; 2003-07-14 at 12:43 AM. |

One of the reasons why I like this game as much as I do is precisely because the only thing your "level" gives you is more options to choose from. This isn't EQ or DAoC, and anyone can take anyone out if you go about it the right way. If you can't, then you either didn't plan or didn't practice enough, since ANYONE can use ANY weapons in the game from Day 1.
I'll bet the ones buying the Planetside accounts have quite a few bridge and swampland titles of ownership, too.
