(Sorry but this IS political, but its one of those, I gotta know things)
The following link is to a story that roundly blasts the British police and the gun laws over there. I read it, I agree with it, but I also realize it is on VERY right wing site... thus I wanted the British posters here, that are interested ofcourse, to read it and let me know what you think. Kinda of a "Average Joe's take" on the issue. I like to get multiple sides of an issues opinions before I really formulate an opinion. This is the only place I KNOW that there are Brits on otherwise I would take it elsewhere. http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles...le.asp?ID=5406

hi all. (yeh well to start ill just say that this is the view of a 15yr old so i dont haveany recollection of anythink from say furtherf than 4 or 5 years ago)
Well yeh that is a totally right wing view on the whole subject though it is not without its own merits. they say that the bitish police is in a shambles but what is a shambles? i say its when yo can be shot by an americanm cop by simply not knowing the traffic rules(one of my uncles was nearly shot because he was driving along a a police car behind him flashed him so he moved over and contd doing so. when he did pull over on the third time the cop had his pistol out of his holster-not good)Even the ARVs (armd response vehicles who carry automatic weapons) only take the weapons out of the locked safe in the squad car after express permission from the ranking officer back at the station. now they are starting to implement a 5yr on the spot penalty for even having possesion of an illegal firearm. now think how often a dunblane has happened?3 maybe 4 in my memory span that have been published.i dread to think what its like in country where firearms are readily available like toys. soz for going on a bit but i feel that if only the people who havnt even experienced the modern police force knew the facts and supported them then we wouldnt be in the political mess that we are in, we even have an AMERICAN PRIME MINISTER (speaking metorphorically) ..there we are...let it all floooow out of you... |

I think if you READ that whole article, it might be informative to anyone interested in this topic. It shows whether or not crime has risen in Britain, and at what rate, and even goes into the dangers of guns, children and accidents. I think for some, it might be a good read, if you read it..

yes like i said guns are banned in blighty however it is stupidly easy to import them illegally such as from ireland. and the current govt. are trying to incur a 5 yr on the spot penalty for anyone in possesion of a firearm. and lets just hope it works.
no the police dont carry guns. not even the armed police (with the exception of SO19 who are only called out for serious hostage situations, etc. none are allowed to carry the firearms and the arv's keep themlocked up in the squad car at all timeson patrol. |
