Using Linux with Panther I presume right? Pointing to a BIND DNS server? What were the last ten stores you shopped at? More then likely eight of them used Windows as a frontend to their POS system.

Oh I know lots of things run Linux... But it annoys me when uneducated punks jump on the "Microsoft Sucks" or "Microsoft has nothing good" train. 99.9% of them have absolutely no conception of how the administration of an enterprise scale network works.

I would love to sit down and have a chat with an enterprise network architect that has switched from a Windows based setup to a Unix based platform, but I have never heard of such a person that had a good reason to do so.

Is MS without flaws? Of course not... I am the first person to curse Microsoft when I have to spend 45 min installing security patches for an OS that is a year old. Or when I install my brand new copy of Office 2003, go to Office Update and have to download four critical patches to an application that came out two weeks before!

Will I ever install a Microsoft ISA firewall? Perhaps... But not till I see a year go by that ISA does not have one applicable security issue... I recommend Symantec Enterprise Firewall... That has had ONE security patch in the last four years I have been managing them. That security patch was only applicable if you were running an old version of the RealAudio streaming server.

How about the fact that *nix systems are more stable and secure then windows. Linux inparticular was built as a server. It does the job better then a windows platform. There is a reason why most of the major websites like Amazon run linux servers.

But either one is fine with me, the new one is not all that much different, so unless you really want a change I wouldn't waste your time.
