Indeed. There is no internet less than 28.8k readily available anymore lol, so I HIGHLY doubt you have less. The internet is definately the problem.

it is 56k but it is running at a connection of 28.8kbps. this is the error message that comes up "microsoft windows detected and recovered from a device failure. Please save your work and reboot to restore frll functionality"

that helps a bit more, that means one of two things i think, he either has a driver problem or some hardware is malfunctioning, I would first download new drivers for his chipset, vidcard, soundcard, and modem. Then if that doesn't help i can't realy say what too do other than if it was bought from a place(not Built yourself) tell them and see what they can do

AHAHAHA not again, 3 days in a row ok i'll go find it again

for XP home, and most others) Go to the control planel --> system --> advanced --> performance settings --> advanced --> vitual memory change -- > custom size --> set the max and min the same to the same size, mine is 2gb, and there you go

that's a bios option, probably somewhere under advanced chipset management or something of the like.

You left out what video card the guy has. Its more than likely a driver problem or something with it.
