I'm just curious as to what majors some of the people on this forum are pursuing, and what they plan on being (or at least hope to be) in the future. I realize that some of you may have already graduated from college, if so, please post what your major was, and what job you are in right now (if you don't mind that is).
I'm really interested in your responses. To kick things off, I'll start. I'm a Computer Science major at a community college. I'm finishing up my 4th semester, and I'm looking for a job in the computer field at this point. Job market for technology jobs is tough right now, but anything is better than my current job (stocking lumber at a warehouse, blech). Some day I hope to be a game developer/programmer, and get paid lots of money to create video games! |

Well I'm assuming that a major is something like a University degree here in Britain in which case I'm also doing Computer Science.
My dream job... no idea, but community relations manager is up there... /me stalks Sporkfire Being a pilot is also up there alongside being a Royal Marine but they're all probably unlikely |

My father is a civil engineer btw. Seems like an all right job.
Anyway my dream job would be to drive an F1 or NASCAR race car, but that's highly unlikely. I'd like to be a sports commentator, journalist or something that allows you the option of traveling. I don't want to and will not be cooped up in a cubicle all friggin day. |

IST (Information Science Technologies)
Basically "Computers and stuff" Its not a comp sci degree, more of half hands on networking/system design/stuff and other half project management and implementation. My dream job would be systems analyst or leader or various projects, and eventually possible own my own business in said field. |

Hey Kids! Why don't you become a Process/Project Engineer like uncle SDM. Non-stop excitement! Just today I had a half hour confrence call with some ass-hat at GM (Oklahoma Truck Assembly). He's all pissed at me 'cause the rear hatch on all his GMC Envoys make a clicking noise when you open them. I'm all like WTF dude!? and he's all BLAH BLAH BLAH ALL YOUR FAULT BLAH BLAH! and I'm like DUDE! anyways, turns out that a woman on the assembly line is whacking my plastic hinge panel with a fucking mallet to put them on. I suggested removing the "hammer" from the assembly process.

@ SDM. Nice. I've been there many a time myself...
See at my job, I have to go in and stock a shit load of moulding (you know, like stuff that goes around doors and windows, hardly a glamorous job). Anyhow, no matter HOW many times I yell at them, they ALWAYS pick up the product with a forklift, EVERY frigging week. Then they complain about damaged product. I mean, sure its lumber, but its very fragile stuff. Some lazy ass fuck picks it up with a forklift instead of pushing it by hand, destroys a thousand dollars worth of pristine product, and it somehow becomes MY fault. I get chastized by managers who say "I've noticed a lot of damaged product recently, and I doubt its OUR employees thats doing it... I need you to be more careful." Fucking retards. Anyhow... yeah, I know how frustrating it can be. I definately hate my job, all I want is to work with computers. Hell, I would look FORWARD to going to work every day if I did. Its just so hard to get a tech job its ridiculous. Interesting so far, I'm seeing a couple of fellow tech majors like myself (no wonder its so hard for me to get a good job, its the fault of you bastards flooding the market ) anyhow, keep posting guys, I am very interested in your careers/career paths. |
