What does Independence Day mean to you?

With July 4th rapidly approaching now is the time to reflect on what the day truely means to us Americans. Is it our celebration of OUR freedom over English opression? That is what most of us are taught in school about the holiday... Or is it the celebration of ANY man's, woman's, and child's right to be free?

To me it is the second choice... for a very long time in the 17 and 1800s America was an example of freedom. In France, the people strived to have had what we have... In England, reforms swept the nation's political system making it more and more democratic. While, yes, July 4th is the celebration of American freedom, it should more be considered the celebration of all freedom over all oppression...

Today is Canada Day(Equivalent of Independance day)

It stands for our freedom; freedom of choice, freedom of speach, It stands for every man, woman, and child we've lost to build this great country, it stands for every american soldier quivering in a trench knowing damn well he will have to expose himself again to do his job as a soldier, it stands for the 20 year old private who gave his life to save his country, It stands for all that freedom.
