<CDL-ObnoxiousFrog> seriously, monday is a great day for ball licking
------------------------------------------------------------------ I didn't fake that. Anyway, here's the question: <AztecWarrior> You know what I've always wondered? Why the HELL do dolphins beach themselves AGAIN after being unbeached by greenpeace hippies??? Dhark's answer just didn't cut it. Seriously, why?

The gun katas. Through analysis of thousands of recorded gunfights, the Cleric has determined that the geometric distribution of antagonists in any gun battle is a statistically predictable element. The gun kata treats the gun as a total weapon, each fluid position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents while keeping the defender clear of the statistically traditional trajectories of return fire. By the rote mastery of this art, your firing efficiency will rise by no less than 120%. The difference of a 63% increase to lethal proficiency makes the master of the gun katas an adversary not to be taken lightly. |

In all seriousness, it's usually because the sonar noise from ships literally drive dolphins mad. Dolphins use echo-location, so they have extremely sensitive ears. Sonar from warships and such are extremely loud and disruptive to dolphins, even if the ships are dozens or hundreds of miles away. It's so bad that dolphins sometimes beach themselves to get out of the water and away from the damaging sonar pings. So when people try to get dolphins back into the water, dolphins beach themselves again because they can't stand the sonar pings.
/end seriousness

No, I demand answers. I think it's just failure at life, failure at natural selection, and they deserve to die. GG

It depends on how you mean beach themselves.
Somewhere, i believe on the East coast, Dolphins beach themselves to eat. Haha yes, but really i watched this on tv (National Geografic channel....they had no Discovery). 2 or more dolphins will make a disturbance in the water which will cause fish to scramble and usually to shallow water. Then Dolphins rush to them and beach themselves into the water and each the fish that are now on dry land. They wiggle themselves back into the water and repeat. Its also a very helpful technique for pelicans or sum kinda bird, they get leftovers. Thats if they WANT to beach themselves, otherwise UD kinda explained why they do it for no reason.
