gohan.exe & hamma thought it was weird that the psu staff artist would surf with sigs disabled.
i'd like to draw attention first to my own signature, and second the following analysis i've performed on signatures as applied to psu forums: i'm using page 5 of the psumb thread. with fourty posts, it has good variety of contributors and no images posted: http://www.planetside-universe.com/f...3&page=5&pp=40 with signatures disabled, the page size is 37.18 KB. at 1262 wide, the page is 11639 tall. with signatures on, i have to load 345 KB. at 1262 wide, it's now 16633 tall. scaled down to 150px wide, here's the same thread with sigs on and off: my mousewheel scrolls seven lines per indent (default is 3). (if i'm browsing full-screen, i get about 64 lines per screen.) mouse clicks about eight times when i roll the wheel that scrolls around 56 lines with each motion. signatures add ~5000px to a page, or about five screens' height that means it takes me six additional zips of the mousewheel to get past your billboards... for each page. i usually only read the game discussion and lounge forums, but there are over 18k threads totalling some 386 posts in those two... or 9650 pages. that means that if i'd had signatures on, i would have had to zip my mousewheel 57,900 times more than i have.

Anyway, sigs don't make a forum what it is, my attachment to them is minimal and I think I'll turn them off too. |
