Most people have something called common sense, one of the main dictations of common sense is that, if there is an action, there will always be a reaction. On occasion, someone is a little nuts, and they will do crazy shit like chop your penis off if you cross them. The point is never to assume that nothing will happen, and if it does, you shouldnt be surprised.

Yes, but the crime should fit the punishments. If he simply gave them the beating of their lives or broke a few bones I wouldn't have a problem, but what he did was serious fucking overkill.
