Action Vault has put up an interview with Victor Wachter, Community Relations Manager for SOE.
Action Vault: Since communities tend to change and evolve over time, how does PlanetSide's differ now from when you began? How do you feel your job and goals have been affected during this time?
Victor Wachter: The most obvious change is the transition from a pre-launch community through a beta community to a full-fledged release community. The most positive change has been in how the community's involvement has grown with the game. Being one of the first of its kind, PlanetSide's community could have gone so many different ways in their expectations. We're lucky that the players have adapted well to the depth the game offers and has taken such an active role in being clear about where they'd like to see the game go in the future.
Early on, we attempted to guide the community toward "our" vision of what the game should evolve into. We quickly learned that those people in the trenches of the battles in-game were some of the best to guide us. I think we are lucky to have had such an adaptable team that could swallow the constructive criticism and use it to improve the game so quickly. While we have been able to maintain our desired direction for PlanetSide, the community has become an invaluable resource to us.
