The biggest (only?) reason to have SMART in PS2 is that it could be used to replace the need to jump. While Brink has jumping, it only really means anything for the small frames and wall running. Everything else is essentially just mantling.
Jumping exists to get over obstacles. Jumping in shooters also equates to bunnyhopping, even if it does screw your accuracy. SMART w/o jumping would let players get over obstacles while, at the same time, blocking bunnyhopping. Win/Win except for spazmo hoppers and they can suck it. edit: It's licensed tech and PS2 won't have it or an analogue (I don't imagine at least) so we'll have to deal with jumping jackrabbits. /sadface
