Hi everyone I'm new here but like you all I can't wait for PS2 its gonna be so cool...
Anyway I want this game to be amazing and one thing MMOs all ways fall down on is the communication system. How is PS2 going to deal with everyone's chatter its gonna be messy and is there going to be in game voice coms? and how will it work? Personally I how here is some sort of in game voice chat because with this type of game its very important to communicate and it has to be done well... I'm sorry if this has already be talked about... but I think it will be helpful for people ideas on how people can communicate through the PS2 world... |

When the game was announced Higby came here and said they'll be using Vivox's voice stuff in the game so you can communicate with your squad or with gunners in your vehicle. So yeah they have the whole voice system integrated this time around and working it sounds like. They haven't said anything regarding local chat or outfit stuff exactly I don't think.

I hope they make sure the chat system is as functional or more functional that PS1's. Chat is massively important in a game like PS. You need to be able to change the size of your chat box manually, disable and activate certain types of chat, etc. It'd also be nice if you could opt to have your chat log saved in a file in the PS2 directory.
Also, wonder if the kill spam is going to be there? |

What Vivox pioneered in DCUO was called Proximity chat. What it does is allow everyone within a designated radius hear you. The positives is it really makes coordination easy by a localized group. A negative however is you are going to keep hearing that kids mom tell him to clean up his room until he does it.

It would be handy to automatically be able to communicate with people in the same vehicle. |

I think proximity voice will be awesome. I play a similar genre game that makes extensive use of it and it adds to the experience and gameplay immensely.
Saying that people will turn it off is like saying that everybody turns off voice in any multi player game, which is blatantly untrue, barely anybody does that unless they're muting someone who's being annoying. As long as we can selectively mute people who are being dicks on purpose I think it'll be a fantastic addition to the game. |

Definitely need to be able to mute with this. It would only take one person screaming into it to ruin it. Would the voice chat be monitored like the regular chat will be? That would be difficult.

Myself I can pretty much guarantee I will turn the thing off. I intend on joining an outfit that uses ventrillo or teamspeak etc but just have no intention to listen to kids crying about getting shot.
But that is just my personal oppinion other than that the game is looking great. |

Muting individuals could work in games with few ppl that you meet repeatedly. If there will be 500+ ppl and you can be next to any of them anytime you would spend half playing time just muting them.
And its not just anyone who is annoying on purpose. There would be tons of noise. Several ppl trying to speak at once, or even if its organized and in each area speak only one you can be in the middle of them and hear all 3 at once. Its just too much unnecessary noise. You cant hear squad or outfit voice if there is always someone in your proximity speaking. |
