Official Minimum Spec's Lowered

SmokeJumper posted on the official forums the following message in the following thread.

http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/p...ML/003580.html

Folks,
Our memory optimizations continue, but we can currently (and easily) run the game on 32MB video cards and only 256MB of system RAM.

Thus, we're officially lowering our minimum system specs.

NOTE: "Minimum spec" means you'll need to run with lower-resolution textures (they look blurrier in the game), but the models all still look great, the terrain is good, the sky still shows, etc. In otherwords, it's not as crisp as you can do at "Recommended spec"...but it's still pretty cool looking.

ALSO NOTE: A complete list of supported video cards will be posted at a date closer to release.

Here's the specs:

Minimum Specs:
Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
Pentium II 1.0 Mhz or greater
256 MB RAM
Direct3D compliant video card with 32MB RAM
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
56k+ Internet connection
4X speed CD-ROM
2.0 GB hard drive space
DirectX 8.1 or greater

Recommended Specs:
Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
Pentium III 1.6 Mhz or greater
512 MB RAM
Direct3D compliant video card with 64MB+ RAM
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Broadband Internet connection
8X speed CD-ROM
2.0 GB hard drive space
DirectX 8.1 or greater

that's incredible! Now all I need is a processor and RAM upgrade and I can play with the lowest resolution......

somehow I'm not as excited anymore

Remember guy's This is MINIMUM requirements. Exceeding these Req's would be in your best interest, Getting a CPU upgrade is expensive, Cause you may need a new mobo, But if you have anything less than a 1.0ghz i think its about time to upgrade. Vid card's will make your gaming experience ten times better, not to mention RAM! So work some overtime, And enhance your gaming experience

They actually made a Pentium II clocked at 1 Ghz?

Anyway, yey. I actually meet reccomended spec directly in both the RAM and video departments, and my P4 2.53 ghz blows away the processor need.

Does this mean I have a chance of being accepted into beta with only 256 ram?

i'm pretty sure there always was a chance. They wan't BETA testers with all sorts of PC's which is what helps them figure out the minimum/recommended requirments. Also they still wan't to monitor the performance of the game on various systems to enable them to possibly figure out how to improve the gameplay.

Awesome. I expected the minimum RAM to be lowered ( just like evreyone else ) but I didn't think they'd lower the min video card. I can't wait.
