Will Planetside 2 Avoid Mass Negativity?

Having been part of successful servers in Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty and Battlefield over the last few years in my own community, there is one problem that always creeps up when you get pubbies in the servers. That is the chat box becomes a mess of people complaining about everything.

"So and so killed me with x gun he's a hacking"
"Anyone who uses y gun is a ******"
"x gun is so OP!"
"y can't I kill tank with pistol? That's BS!"

Or how about those people who talk as if they're the BEST PLAYER EVAR and then when they die once, they rage in chat call everyone hacking/exploiting noobs.

The problem with this behavior is that so much negativity can create a hostile and negative experience for everyone in your server. If you allow a few people to constantly complain in chat, even more people will. As admins we would typically ban people from the server if all they did was complain. This can also lead to people in the community moving on to other games as they don't want to listen to constant complaining and bitching. This is one of the biggest contributors to Battlefield 3 dying in my own community among other things.

So will Planetside 2 follow in that trend. I've only been playing the original Planetside for a few days now and for the most part that community is pretty good. Still it's a small community, and PS2 is likely going to get the masses from other shooters to come and at least check it out. Will the game just devolve into people endlessly complaining and bitching about everything that kills them? Will faction pride be something that gets people in line? Or is this something that we, as a community will have to keep a check on.

and f2p will make this game even worse community wise

admins banned u because of aimbotting? -> make a new account

In short i think people will bitch and moan alot. The game is f2p, which will bring alot of these people in. I think if it were sub based it might be better tbh.

I know the PS1 community has quite a few bad eggs, but I have never seen so much "OMGZ ur a H4x0r!!!" or "fkn n00b you suk dik" and "LOLZ 1 am sooo 1337" in chat anywhere but Battlefield or COD. And NO, I'm not saying everyone coming from BF is a little annoying kid. The F2P model especially will not help this.


What I'm saying is, get used to it.

Its a game, its going to happen. You dont want to just start booting people for saying a sentence. That causes negative views more so than someone complaining in chat.

Most serious players probably wont even be looking in global chat just because it will be full of spam regardless. Just ignore them. If people leave because they dont have the capacity to ignore individuals then they would probably leave for other reasons because its not that hard of a skill to master.

Get in an outfit, get into a voip channel/server and ignore the text.

Oh I'm used to it, I'm just curious if we'll actually be able to get past it with the whole faction loyalty thing.

To the OP: It'll have its bad community and its good one. One can't really predict which side will outnumber the other.

PS1 you could kill and loot the enemy for the weapon thierfore no need to complain about other factions weapons..

PS2 no longer able to loot enemy faction weapons so I guess we'll just have to wait till beta to get a feel for how wether weapons OP or not and even then you'll have to check your opponents weapon in detail to see if its the sidegrades that are making a weapon op not just the basic weapon!

as for complaining.. well it happens in every game.. you just need to shut out the whiners

i dont care since i have my people who i play with, i dont give a damn about the community, the elitism of THIS forum is really bad im laughing everyday when someone like you is acting serious


it will be like in any other game

want to have fun without flaming idiots? join a guild/outfit/whatever
want to get flamed on a steady base? play with randoms

Great point... that's exactly what I plan to do, and I recommend any newcomers to do the same. Let all the dumb asses fight it out in global chat among themselves. While everyone else that is sane and mature, get shit done with their outfit on TS or VOIP.

I will just IGNORE the global chat. When I'm ready to read about players complaining and mumbo jumbo, I'll come to the forums for that.

A non-CR5 soldier could at max, do a SOI wide broadcast. This dramatically limited size of the audience for such needless whining.
