Well, like the title states, never touched Ps1, first time I heard of it when I saw Ps2 trailer. And don't get me wrong, if I had know about Ps1, I would of played the hell out of it... Also love the way everybody's attached to their empire, which makes me want to play the game even more, lol. Most of the games I played were large scale combat type of games - Operation Flashpoint, Arma, Battlefield. But anyway, on to the questions, which are all Ps2 related:
1. Will I be able to create multiple characters on one account, and if so, could they be from different empires ( let's say 1 TR and 1 NC)? 2. Will the infiltrator only be able to use the sniper rifle ( not including the pistol) or will he have some sort of different weapons? 3. I heard that the engineer will have a deployable turret, which will be player controlled, but what I'm wondering, if there will be a way for it to be an automatic turret, using skill trees and such? 4. One of the trailers states, that Tr will have faster fire rate, Nc will have more damaging weaponry and that the Vanu will have alien technology. So, what does Vanu differ from other factions? 5. If one of the empires simply dominates the other two, what happens then? Let's say the Tr will have all the hexes, without the possibility of the two other factions getting the hexes back. Will the game restart, will something else be done with the Tr or will the game continue like always? 6. Last question ( Finally right? lol), I know that you get new weapons and attachments when leveling up. But how will that work? In Bf3 you get weapons both for leveling up your character and your class (medic, recon, support, engineer), in CoD you get all types of weapons, simply by leveling up. Sorry for the long post, sorry, if I made any grammatical errors and thanks to anybody who had the time to read my question, and maybe answer them. Thank you! |

I never played Planetside 1 and only recently started to follow PS2 (maybe like 2 months) BUT i'll answer...
1. Will I be able to create multiple characters on one account, and if so, could they be from different empires ( let's say 1 TR and 1 NC)? I think its one faction per server? I dont know maybe something like that. 2. Will the infiltrator only be able to use the sniper rifle ( not including the pistol) or will he have some sort of different weapons? They can use other weapons, you can be either a full blown sniper or you can use a carbine and be sneaky sneaky or a mix of either or. SO no its not just sniper rifle and pistol...which I love. 3. I heard that the engineer will have a deployable turret, which will be player controlled, but what I'm wondering, if there will be a way for it to be an automatic turret, using skill trees and such? Not that I know of...so far its just player controlled. 4. One of the trailers states, that Tr will have faster fire rate, Nc will have more damaging weaponry and that the Vanu will have alien technology. So, what does Vanu differ from other factions? They use unorthodox weapons...so far I think its high recoil but accurate with less drop off? Something like that... 5. If one of the empires simply dominates the other two, what happens then? Let's say the Tr will have all the hexes, without the possibility of the two other factions getting the hexes back. Will the game restart, will something else be done with the Tr or will the game continue like always? It's impossible, each faction has what is a warp gate, kinda like a sanctuary, they can never be truly defeated or wiped off the map because the warp gate will always be there and is uncappable. 6. Last question ( Finally right? lol), I know that you get new weapons and attachments when leveling up. But how will that work? In Bf3 you get weapons both for leveling up your character and your class (medic, recon, support, engineer), in CoD you get all types of weapons, simply by leveling up. I think the only think that levels up is your certs...you buy weapons and adds with the auraxium or whatever. |

Explosives and class specific abilities will be unlocked with certification points - you will gain them by earning XP while killing, healing, repairing, etc. |

WOW, thanks for the fast and thorough answers, really helped me out in choosing my empires and classes. Thanks again!
EDIT: Sorry, last question thou, lol. I found couple of system requirements, and they are all, like, really low. With the graphics like that, it seems the game is really well optimized. The requirements I found are these, and I'm wondering if they are true: Minimum - CPU Celeron E1200 Dual-Core 1.6GHz/Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3600+ GPU GeForce GT 120/Radeon HD 3670 Ram 1gb Maximum - CPU Pentium Dual Core E6600 3.06GHz/Phenom II X2 560 GPU GeForce GT 140/ Radeon HD 3870 Ram 2gb Last edited by FunkyGroove; 2012-07-29 at 03:17 PM. |

I'll try and answer some of these, and no worries about getting your head chewed off. like any forum some folks here are cranky.
1. as far as I know multiple characters but same empire on chosen server.. no worries though once you find your empire the actual thought of getting in another uniform will leave you sullied and ashamed. 2. there was a big stink a while back about cloakers having shotguns. so probably. I don't think that was ever confirmed. 3 don't know a whole lot about the engineer tree. 4. vanu mainly use energy weapons. so pew pew with lasers. not saying they can't use a real weapons. not all of them are lore nuts. 5. the game is persistent. if an empire dominates then its the other two empires fault for sucking it up so much. however each empire is supposed to have a foothold that can't get taken over. so there is always a fighting chance. 6.how it's been explained to me think of it like this. you already have everything in the game. you just unlock them as you want when you level. the more you specialize in one class the faster you open everythingin there. it's not bf3 lvl 20 you get x gun. I did this while at work, so I'm sure these were already answered and more correctly. my thing is its great to get hyped up on a game but wouldn't worry too much till your actually playing it. |

On the system requirements.
No offical requirements are announced. All we know that the engine (Forgelight) is well scalable, but a 8800 GT "won't be fun". That may mean that everything set to low it will give you playable framerates, but the main fights with lots of models and projectiles and effects on the screen will be too much. But you can still play behind the lines, doing transports, snipe, do the rapid reaction (always pick small skirmishes). Still, the best advice would be to buy a new system I fear. |

TR: Speed (RoF and Movement) NC: Heft (Hefty Damage and Armor) VS: Precision (Manuverability and Accuracy) The VS will have 0 drop off but will do decreased damage over distance.

5) There will be unbreachable footholds for each empire on every continent. There will be no game restarts despite any continent dominance. There will be some type of "underdog" continent bonus system. If a continent gets dominated, so what. That's war. I hear the developers keep saying that because there are three sides, one empire won't be able to hold a continent because they'll be battled two fronts againts a united force. That's not good enough reason for me.
What's a larger front? A) You own 50% of the continent with a frontline that spans the entire thing, B) You have the other two empires backed into their foothold, so you just have to hold these two "tiny" frontlines. We have the same three empires in PS1 and continent domination still occurs. And the two underdog empires don't always agree to fight with eachother. Empires abandon continents all the time. There are three continents, and empires can be distracted quite a bit to not care about continent dominance on one of them. This very well could mimic PS1 in that certain continents become owned by certain empires, and the player base comes to accept this. With three continents at launch, each empire could pick the one continent they're going to dominate. I think it's going to be fun though. Your outfit can choose whatever sector of hex's they want to take - dominated continent or not - frontline or behind lines - a sector known to be a hopeless pitched battle or an easy win. |

We don't know enough specifics yet to give definate answers to these questions, although people have offered up what we know sofar. But I see some folks' answers conflicting others so I'll give what I know:
1) One faction per server. Possibly multiple characters (but there's little reason to do so) 2) Sniper will not be tied down to just sniper rifle and pistol. Exactly what else he'll have access to - we probably don't know for sure. 3) Player-manned deployable turret is in for sure. At first it was even a bragging point for the game "manned turrets only". However I think a lot of people have been asking for deployable AI turrets (PS1 spitfires), and we have seen a screenshot of certs for something called the spitfire. But that doesn't mean much at this point in the game. So we don't know for sure. 4) Aside from not having bullet drop as has been pointed out, I guess we don't know much. In PS1 Vanu had universal ammunition, which could be used in an anti-personnel capactiy as well as anti-armor. I don't think we have different ammo types confirmed for PS2 (although I think I heard mention of it's possibility in an interview once). If we do see that, I'd bet Vanu has the same type of flexibility as before. 5) As has been pointed out, each faction gets an uncapturable "foothold" hex. Additionally, the server population would have to be horribly tipped in the favor of a single faction in order for this situation to happen. And additionally you can probably expect to see a bonus XP or resource multiplier for players of factions who have the lowest population (in order to encourage players of the less populated factions to join, this system works pretty well in PS1). 6) My understanding is that when you level (gain a battle rank) you are given certs that you can spend however you want. So you can earn a BR by playing as a Galaxy pilot mostly, and then go and spend those points on increasing your abilites as a Light Assault. Additionally, I think I heard that weapon-specific unlocks (attachments etc) are granted through playing with that specific weapon. Although I'm not positive about that. |

Well, seeing as how everybody did such a good job at answering my questions, here, have some more, lol.
1. How long will the day/night cycle last? Since in the videos it lasted around 30-40 mins, and I'm wondering, if that was just for the beta test. Would be cool, if it was like Arma, when Day/Night is based on the real world. 2. Will there be any special events? I know this is pretty early to ask, but just wondering. Were there any in Ps1? And if so, what were they? 3. Is the DPS mostly the same on Tr and Nc? If you don't know how it is on Ps2, how was it on Ps1? 4. What guns will the engineer be able to use? 5. Will the Cert tree be one big tree, or couple of separated ones? 6. Aaannnnddd last question, how many vehicles are there per empire, both air and land? Welp, these questions are easier, than the previous ones, hope you'll "enjoy" answering them, like you did last time, lol. |

Not certain they given specifics on day/night cycle times yet. 2. Will there be any special events? I know this is pretty early to ask, but just wondering. Were there any in Ps1? And if so, what were they? I think they will have special events. They did in PS1: Rabbit (game-play event), Black Ops (game-play event), The Bending (story driven event). 3. Is the DPS mostly the same on Tr and Nc? If you don't know how it is on Ps2, how was it on Ps1? TR were about medium range and fast fire. NC were more about close range and hard hitting fire. 4. What guns will the engineer be able to use? I think that info might be in the PS2 info thread stickied at the top of this forum section. 5. Will the Cert tree be one big tree, or couple of separated ones? Refer to 4. Each class will have it's own cert tree with specific weapons and equipment. You can then specialize into the class further to unlock abilities or unlocks that give you more flexibility in the choices you have. Same sort of thing for the vehicles but they aren't tied to the classes I don't think. 6. Aaannnnddd last question, how many vehicles are there per empire, both air and land? I haven't counted the exact number but might be in info thread... Last edited by Crator; 2012-07-31 at 01:05 PM. |
