The mechanics surrounding the game are a larger factor when it comes to community.

it'll be larger. the game will have more longevity with an F2P model. I only hope SOE gets money for their staff and for server maintenance.

No way it will be a close knit community like ps1, will be way more people and i imagine not a lot will stick around for so many years like ps1, way too much competition out there at the moment.

Ps1 had a lot of sitting around hacked terminals and a lot of banter and chit chat happened there, also each server forum was pretty small so unless they're kept like that in Planetside 2 a community won't blossom. i see forums going like WoW server forums and turn into mindless spam and looking for outfit/members threads.

Even if it was subscription based, i still think it wouldn't change too much.

? There will still be camaraderie in outfits, and between outfits that work together with any frequency, and rivalries with enemy outfits that you tend to clash with more often.

You're exposure to the overall population will be more limited to your areas of operation and servers.

It will make it larger, for a while. But at some point the game play quality catches up with the hype and the numbers wont lie.

Think the outfits will be more tight knit than the rest who will probably come and go depending on situations. The free 2 play will probably always keep a healthy pop though.

This. I am already hoping to get 20 people from another clan in a game i play, so we could start our own outfit and bring all the non-tactical people into the glorious tactical realm that is Planetside 2

I'm guessing that for the first couple of months there will be lots of idiots in the game. Guys who don't care about ticking off everyone they meet. I think with everything focused on large scale cooperation, that those people will go back to a game with e-sports or something where they don't have to care about the entire population hating them.

The scope of this game, should make really tight nit clans, and pretty decent relations within the faction. And those, types that solo que into other mmo groups just to blame everyone else for loses will slowly disappear once they realize this games about massive co-op.

I find f2p games seem to pick up a lot of trash that make zero effort to learn the game, just what I have seen in other games.

I hope ours is different.

You just have to look at League of Legends to see what kind of cesspool of a community can develop around a free to play game

Like most games, there will be a close knit 'hardcore' community with cross faction rivalries on every server, the on/off players who are casual and may strike conversation here and there or play occasionally with a squad, and there will be the vagrants, who just come to cause shit, and disrupt the fun of others.
