Map Hex size

I propose that the current hex sizes on the map are too large. There are multiple cases where hexes from one area cut into bases and areas in another. It just looks sloppy and artificial.

I believe the solution would be to halve the hex sizes, quadrupling the number of hexes used on the map. This is pretty much a visual tweek but would also make territory configuration easier for the devs.

Re: Map Hex size

Well, the hex system is an approximation of what the base controls and considering the grid has to remain the same, it won't ever be extremely accurate in the sense you describe. Having more hexes may create a better sampling area, but it would also look far more messy as the borders would be more rugged and crude.

Ideally, the shape of the influence area would conform with both psychological and practical control areas, meaning it conforms with how terrain and base locations result in areas being controlled in practice. That would probably be too complex right now though... But if borders followed terrain features that tend to mark borders, like ravines, ridges and rivers, then the borders would feel far more natural.

The borders are currently more like half the US (state) border lines: simplified for practical mapdrawing reasons, without actually relating to the territory it divides.

You must've only played on Esamir. Which I actually prefer in terms of terrain and amount of Hexes. However, Indar has quite a bit more, smaller, Hexes.

If you are referring to Indar, I can agree that the Hex territories are a bit haphazard and not very practical. However re-laying them to achieve a proper territory is the solution, not adding more of them as Indar is just a giant xp farm with so many territories flipping so often. (700 total points per capture for people who actually cap point and wait for Territory to turnover)
