Burnt Earth Policy

There is a trend i have been noticing recently, both in my own outfit and other factions, it is a strange one, one I can't seem to understand but one that is slowly becoming more popular.

This trend is the trend to blow up terminals. As a sort of "fuck you" to the enemy I can see how it would appeal to some. Tactically however unless you blow up every single terminal in a base including the spawn room I don't see the point.

Does anyone here blow up terms? if so why? I just want to understand why. Why not just hack them?

I will add if you are defending and blow up your OWN terms so the enemy can't pull vehicles or restock for a whole 5 seconds, I can see how it may work.

Some people simply like to destroy things, and they will always be with us.

On the other hand you get xp for destroying terminals which is wrong and should be changed.

An attacker really wants to keep those terms alive so they can be hacked and provide vehicles or allow you to change class.

It's the defender that tactically should destroy terminals when they're about to lose control of that area.

No different than PS1, and you didn't even get XP to do it in that game. People will always think they are somehow hindering the enemy when they blow up an opposing faction's term, even when their entire empire is surrounding the thing.

Something to shoot at while waiting since no one can defend more than a few minutes after the doors are camped.

The only thing that makes sense is hacking them, then destroying them, in an enemy owned based that is.

Btw it's scorched earth.

You get a bit of XP to destroy them. Then you get a bit of XP to repair them.

I've seen people go and overload a generator, then go cap the spawn and return to repair the generator.

To me it seems like a flawed plan. Overloading the generator and capping the spawn alerts the enemy. During the time it takes to run to the generator after capping the spawn, several armored vehicles can roll in past the non-existent shields and ruin your day.

But people will do anything for XP...

When taking a base ill blow up my own family for some XP. Ive said it once and Ill say it again. ..... My name is Qwan and Im a XP hore

But on a real note, I usually tell one of my squad mates to go infiltrator and when we take a base his main job is to hack everything and leave them nothing. I think blowing terminals is a waist of time and ammo.

Terminals die fast and yield xp. That's why. And everybody can do it.
XPs are a reward, if people are rewarded for something they keep on doing it.

As with many other games (eg. Tribes Ascend flag returns) they reward people for "bad" behavior because they think they have to reward the player for everything he does, and not for things he does right.

I could see it making sense in some situations to destroy your own tank terminals so your attackers don't hack them and start spawning armor out of your base while you're still trying to defend it. You don't want enemy tanks or worse a deployed sunderer in your vehicle bay.

i sometimes destroy the vehicle ones as this denies the enemy the ability to spawn vehicles/aircraft from the base. weapon ones are a waste of ammo as they have them in the spawn room.

i do it for simple tactics but i agree. some just like blowing shit up

I blow up terminals because when I come across one and it's blown up I get annoyed and I'm an engineer. Imagine if I was someone else? 90% of infiltrators aren't even aware they can hack terminals to begin with.

I find hacked terms 100% more annoying then destroyed terms when defending.
On the other hand if i know we are going to lose the base the thought of putting a few rounds into that terminal cross my mind.

But attacking and destroying terms? WHYYYYYY

We in XoO have started doing this when we leave a base... It keeps Infil back cappers from being able to pull a sundie.
