Vegas pays airlines money so that it is really cheap to get there from anywhere in the US. Honestly Vegas is probably one of the cheapest places to fly in the US from anywhere because of this.

Also San Diego is within driving range of SOE allowing them to save money and put it into the event rather than having a sub-par event because they had to spend extra money getting everyone where they need to be
