As mentioned in
Friday Night Ops #33, LLUs were devices that allowed the enemy to capture a base under siege by taking it to a specific, allied facility. Whilst in transit, this device painted a target on you on the map as a flashing beacon, allowing defenders to kill you and destroy the LLU, thus forcing attackers to try again.
Since there are whole sections of continents now left empty as a result of the Lattice System, the talk about LLUs has given me a possible idea on how to use them. Basically each “Gauntlet Resource Pylon” would be an alien structure that appeared somewhere on the continent contested by all three empires, with a random resource-type. Infantry would have to get past a perimeter of automated defences and remove its LLU, which would disable your ability to use a weapon and glow in the colour of your empire, before another player would need to ferry you by Harasser (aircraft and other vehicles would be a no-no) to your Warpgate… if you died, however, the LLU would reset to the cradle.
If you were successful, that structure would provide a resource boost to your empire for a fixed period of time, before it deconstructed and another appeared somewhere else. But since there would be no telling where these pylons might appear, and the area would be off-limits to all but Harassers, the fight for control over it would never be stale.
