I have been put under the illusion from beta and alpha testing for multiple small developers that independently producing an OpenGL instruction suite that can compete visually and performance-wise with DirectX costs as much [read: takes as much time as] developing an entire game, and honestly if they can do that [their employees] would be better off working as software engineers rather than game developers.

but hey, I've never actually done it. I don't know how complicated it is.

I know there are multiplatform games. However, Forgelight, as far as we know, was not built to run on consoles...

However, with the PS4 promising DirectX support, I think it is entirely likely that PlanetSide 2 will be released on the PlayStation 4 at launch. Since the PS4 has DX support, Forgelight might have some trickery up its sleeve. For example, during the PlanetSide 2 beta, PS2 was reporting usage on up to 8 cores. . . . ...
I don't know how hard it is to change a game over to OpenGL, but I never really heard developers talk about how hard it is. If it really costs as much as making an entire game I can understand that they won't do it. But I think it is ''easier'' than it looks. And I didn't know the PS4 is going to support DirectX. You would say it won't since DirectX is from Microsoft.

Unless I can hook up a keyboard, mouse, and computer monitor to it, it'll still suck. My PS3 has USB ports, but I can't avoid using the crappy console controllers. Therefore my PS3 is a glorified Blu-Ray player, I haven't played a game on it for more than 15 minutes.

I certainly won't buy a console if I can't type out commands in any MMO they might come up with.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say if PS2 has any hopes surviving long term it has to have at least something resembling the PC version on PS4. Actually these new consoles are a saviour to the gaming industry. It is a solid revenue stream that companies desperately need these days. They are hurtin for certain and need a boost big time.

Not without a keyboard and mouse support. Certainly not a complex MMORPG with tons of buttons.

This would be wonderful. To hell with any lingering snootiness that the PC crowd enjoys towards the console-kiddie crowd -- they'll learn, and they'll slow down a bit and work together and run from cover to cover, rather than headlong at their enemies. Somewhere along the way they'll have their OH MY GOD moment of mingled berserk fear/delight. And then by Mother Terra they'll be Planetside veterans, and have fun being snooty towards the rest of the FPS crowd with us.

My God, imagine the slaughterfests we could have...

Why are there power buttons next to the X (and therefor attack) buttons?

Must attack, must attack, must- OH NO, I HIT POWER BUTTON AND IT'S OFF! Seriously?

I just wish the PS4 players would be on the same servers as PC, it would be better for the game in general.

It would be better for PC players as we own them, and worse for PS4 players as they get owned ;P
