Former Beer manager here (store went out of business unfortunately) so I am a huge beer nerd, because of my access(sigh former access) my taste preference is all over the place, if I had a style that I prefer it'd be quads.
My top 3(no real winner, depends on the batch the age and my mood): Victory V-Twelve http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/345/8998 St Bernardus Abt 12 http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/259/1708 Ommegang Three Philosophers http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/42/3457 I've been broke due to lack of job lately so If I've drank beer it's been good ol' Gansett http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/213/7406 Btw Falcon speaks the truth of Clown Shoes, quite good stuff, I worked in Mass so it was easy to get and the price for a bomber was never too shabby. |

Living in Quebec, with relatives in the countryside, I have the advantage of being able to get good stuff from quite a lot of microbreweries, including some fine limited runs (which, around here, all seem to average around 9 to 12%, I guess we like our brews on the strong side). We also get a nice Beerfest every summer, to turn kiddies into real "beer enthusiasts" (read, men), and have some memorable stories along the way
As for taste, I favor the thick, hearty stouts (even in summer, although the waiters at the terrace think I am a madmen), with a weakness for the Imperial ones. I also like the red and amber ales, but microbrewed ones are somewhat rare here (although the Alexander Keith's is quite drinkable in a pinch). Oh, and Pinkie, if you are American (or Canadian even...), you might want to try to come over here, in La Belle Province, the drinking age is mostly a suggestion Last edited by MorioMortis; 2012-07-25 at 01:40 PM. |

It also doesn't help that Germany while it still has a wonderful beer culture, it has had major economic issues in the last few decades with many breweries closing and Big Beer(think Inbev) making false promises to the gov to help out but all they seem to do is buyout and flood the market with crap. I hear about kids taking a Bud instead of a regional wheat or lager and it makes me wish I could slap people across the ocean, our kids are kind of stuck with it, but in Europe there is no excuse! I am hoping in the next few years to save up cash and do a nice tour around the country, I hear Bamberg has a thriving beer diversity |

The Import Cost are almost Terrible in almost Every Modern Country on the Planet. The Younger ones also dont like Budweiser(is it spelled like this ?) here. Most People drink local Beers, where i lived and were i live now(in different parts of Germany of course). But its Part of the Culture here i think to support local Products. Sure this is a Depending on where you are, maybe it different in big City's, i cant say that for sure. |

I was drinking the Péché Mortel by Brasserie Dieu Du Ciel last weekend. I really love the microbrews which come out of Quebec. I haven't found many Canadian microbrews I like at all (from other provinces, that is). Quality of food & beverage in Montréal is outstanding. I was living in Montréal for 5 weeks a few years ago (for a job). I can't get it to work! *shakes fist*

Yeah its a big city thing mostly from what I hear, doesn't stop it from being depressing. I would love to some day get up to Weihenstephan, their hefeweissbier is amazing, light, complex and fantastic with food, doesn't get much better.
I recommend if anyone is friendly with a local beer guy to let them know when they have some "fresh" its incredible, usually a good price point and readily available. |
