I don't hate, or even dislike, any enemies of the Terran Republic. I simply kill them when I see them. It isn't an emotional response, it is business - and business is good.

You won't find a healthy rivalry, more like contempt. Few people hated TR vehicles or weapons. About the only thing the VS had that was truly despised was the Lasher, with Quasar being a close second. And damn near everything the NC had was hated/feared. You name it, the ScatterMAX, the Sparrow, the Phoenix missile launcher, the Thunderer, the Peregrine's AV gunner variant, the Vanguard, the JackHammer... As a VS player, it just sucked fighting the NC. Because 90% of the game catered to their domain (close quarters) and where it didn't, they had the advantage of heavier armor as well as higher firepower (vehicles). It was just a bad combination for balance. Does not surprise me at all to see the NC are the most "hated". 91 hate VS 64 hate TR and 123 hate NC. For infantry/MAX TR were better at range, NC were better at close quarters, with VS running the middle ground. 90% of the game was at close quarters. For vehicles. TR had better infantry transportation, VS had better maneuverability with weaker armor, and NC had heavier armor and higher firepower. Since TR firepower relied on multiple gunners for the same vehicle and VS maneuverability wasn't all that great compared to the other two factions, the NC had a decidedly greater advantage in outdoor combat. So basically it doesn't matter where you are. If you aren't in yellow and blue, you are pretty much easy meat. Last edited by Blackwolf; 2012-06-19 at 07:17 PM. |

Outside, i would say the prowler was less flexible and at a disadvantage against air vehciles when it only had one gunner, but as far as tank v tank goes it was about the same, i would say slightly weaker than the mag and van over all. If you added a third gunner then it became more powerful than the other two.. but a much more tempting target too. The vanguard and magrider were pretty even. The driver of the mag had a gun that was actualy useful, the direct fire fast moving bolt from the main turret was great for fighting vehicles (both air and ground, prowler and vanguard main gun shells were extremely difficult to hit air targets with) but it was not so good against infantry where the prowler and vanguard had a definite advantage due to arcing shells with fairly large AoE. If there was water around, the mag was at a huge advantage, you only scored damage with a direct hit from the main guns of the prowler/vanguard since there was no splash damage when the shells hit the water. Everyone had strengths and weaknesses all this cra about nc having better gear than everyone else is total bollocks, if they were, then it would have been like it was during lasher 2.0 where the vanu controlled the entire bloody map all the time. |

And Your statement pretty much just agrees with mine. I said 90% of the game (I should have specified infantry game) was at close quarters. VS ruled the back door and TR ruled the courtyards, that leaves the rest of the base and every tower on the map to NC territory. And I also mentioned that the Lasher was the VS's only despised weapon.
The Magrider's mobility didn't make effective use of the PPA since strafe was severely limited compared to forward movement. The MBTs were especially good representations of the differences between empire strengths and weaknesses in practice compared to paper. And people have done the math, a Prowler with a secondary gunner wasn't much of a match against a Vanguard. Against a Magrider it was, but not a Vanguard. The MBTs were balanced based on weapons useable at the same time, and the Vannie could only use one of it's two weapons so it was given better armor and a stronger punch to "compensate". Which made it the better tank overall.
And no it's not bollocks. It's simple David vs Goliath. Except David didn't have a sling. |

I feel like all of the factions have their positive and negative qualities, so I substituted "hate" for "look forward to killing the most". That may seem just as bad, but I think I have a certain respect for TR players even though I intend to kill the TR as much as humanly possible. I feel like playing as the NC will be a challenging and rewarding gaming experience (although it seems like most people on this thread seem to think otherwise), and I feel like fighting the TR will provide a great challenge as well. Not to mention I think I'll have a much harder time bringing myself to kill VS when they look so damn swank!

Voted without ever having played any PS :)
I'm going TR - they seem to be the ass-kickers in Planetside. And voted i hate the VS because here in this forum they seem to spread lots of elitism and i already feel the urge to kick their asses *g* |

Sorry, but no sympathy for the NC, by far the worst faction out of the three. Last edited by Otleaz; 2012-06-20 at 06:36 AM. |

I've played all three factions i know what they are good and not good at. Stair cases, spawn rooms are close areas, but you have to get there first .. involving movement through open areas and corridors. It takes a shit load more white ammo to kill a max than it does vanu plasma jizz ammo - it requires a reload - circa 3 seconds to complete, a full 12 clip round + another reload with another couple of shots at point blank range to finish them off with the gold ammo. Unless they changed something drastic in the last 6 months, and whilst you are doing that you are basically incapable of engaging infantry until you have changed your ammo back, where as you can do them both at the same time. Over longer distances. You only used white ammo against maxes if you didnt have a choice and then you usualyl just died barely scracthing it. Your comments are fairly tyical of a vanu player who is not used to having to plan ahead with two different types of ammo pack, since all of your guns only need one and dont need reloads to switch. I didnt say use the driver gun to engage aircraft, i said use the main gun - you know, the big one that shoots fast moving high powered projectiles in a straight line? Something thats pretty damn useful at shooting air targets as you dont have to calculate for a slower moving projectile with an arcing fire? Either way, if there was a problem with balance and the nc were o/p and had all the best gear, then you would see them winning and dominating the map all the time. As it happens, apart from during lasher 2.0, there have been precious few times when ANY empire has dominated the map.. that means the empires are balanced in how they are and this crap about nc having better gear is exactly that.. crap. |

Your description of magriders shows knowledge of the beast, though I always prefered mag over the other 2, because I was VS at launch, and the real difference between mag and the other 2 make him stand out. During the first months of PS1, there, and only there, VS were really the underpowered empire, with the 2-3 weeks of Lasher 2.0 in august 2003 being the exception (and yes, this tool was the most overpowered error made by SOE, we were attacking AIRCRAFT with freaking lashers, and winning). If you didn't play VS at that time, you don't really know what "common pool empire" means Our strong points were a tank that could squish infantry instead of shooting at it efficiently, and a AV weapon mainly used as a infantry sniper replacement. Everything else rather sucked. Since then, with several lasher and pulsar buffs, general MAX buff, Striker nerf, and a whole bunch of changes, they are kind of easy mode, honestly. Most annoyingly, the lasher is the best group HA of the 3, the effects of Lasher spam are devastating when a group is charging. JH, while being the beast 1vs1, is not tailored for group fighting (try going face2face on your target without breaking the LoS of your comrades, good luck). All in all, we're far more balanced today than in May 2003 I've played all 3 empires, mostly VS and NC, thus I don't have ties anymore, and I don't particularly hate one empire. I just hate my ennemies. Last edited by Kalbuth; 2012-06-20 at 11:16 AM. |
