Chapter 22: Dogfight!

"Bring it Peace," Lance stated flatly over the local com. He threw his reaver into a barrel roll and dove into a forest nearby. Peace pulled upwards and hovered, waiting for the wounded black and red reaver to emerge. Lance wasn't planning on coming out too soon however. He landed his reaver in a dense thicket and pulled out a nanogun. He quickly repaired his damaged aircraft and then gased the throttle hard and rocketed out of the trees. Before Peace could react, he had already targeted the air captain. Bullets struck the reaver repeatedly, piercing its armor. "Shit." Peace afterburned into a nearby mountain, Lance nipping at his heels. Peace tried every maneuver he knew to avoid the onslaught of bullets and rockets coming from Lance's reaver. When his reaver reached 1/3 health Peace knew it was time. He broke the plastic case encasing a red button. Without hesitating, he hit it. Suddenly a loud noise was heard. Lance's eyes widened with astonishment as the reaver in front of him suddenly broke before his eyes. The two engines completely disengaged from the reaver, and were jettisoned backwards. "Holy shit!" Lance said as he dove to avoid the debris. His wing clipped one of the engines, and he was sent into a spiral. Even more damaged sheet metal was flung in his path, as Lance spun out of control, trying to regain control. Fire erupted from inside his reaver. Lance knew he was toast unless he ejected. He pushed the button and was flung from the cockpit only seconds before it would have been too late. As his light blue dampeners kicked in, he looked down to see his reaver slam into a tree, uprooting it in a firey ball. He gazed to his right and saw what was left of the reaver still under full power. "What the hell?! It's like it just morphed into a skeeter!" This was exactly what had happened. "Diddy, tell our engineers the last resort works fine," said Peace as he maneuvered around a tree and flew back towards Lance, who had by now landed and was running towards a nearby tower. "You're mine now!" he shouted over the radio. Lance was rushing through the trees as fast as he could go. He was sweating voraciously, knowing his life depended on his speed. He gasped as he saw how close Peace was to him, but as he was looking behind him, he tripped on a root. He tried to scramble free, but his foot was caught. "Say goodnight, Lance." Lance saw the Conglomerate aircraft point its nose downards and the gun right at his face. "I win this time..."

Pretty good but i dont know about the part of Peace having to enter a last resort, he is the best pilot i have ever seen other than anikan. Then again i havent seen you pilot before.

Chapter 23: Airborne Savior

Lance closed his eyes and gritted his teeth expecting to hear the deafening roar of rockets heading towards his face. But he heard something unexpected instead.

"Not this time Peacemaker."

"What the---" "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Suddenly Peacemaker's mosquito was being pummeled with rockets. He flipped his afterburners, but it was much too late. His mosquito disintegrated with a firey explosion. Lance stared at the smoke floating in the sky, where only moments before Peacemaker had hovered about to deliver Lance his deathblow. As he regained his awareness of where he was, he heard over the local com a familiar voice. "Air Captain, consider yourself lucky." Lance saw a purple reaver landing near him. A tall Vanu soldier emerged from it. Lance couldn't believe it. It was General Exarkun! "I blasted him because he was the enemy. Not because you are my friend. So don't confuse it." Lance nodded slowly, but thought he could detect a slight smile on the general's face as he reboarded his reaver and flew off again. Lance had a thousand questions he wanted to ask Exarkun, but he was snapped back to reality by a soldiers voice. "General! Peacemaker's been shot down and killed!!!!!" It was the voice of a New Conglomerate soldier, and judging by the faintness of the voice, he was a few hundred yards away. Lance knew he still had to protect the base, from the incoming NC, so after freeing himself from the root, took off towards Faro again.

Meanwhile...

"Shit! Maverick, I've just intercepted a radio message saying they are sending five more squads. They know that we're the ones and they want us dead!" shouted Hitman as he took his knife out of a dead Conglomerate soldier's back. He was in his infiltration suit positioned a few feet from the entrance, ready to detonate the boomers he had laid around the entrance. "Damn! No way we can hold five squads of NC back," returned Maverick. "Yeah I know, but---" Hitman stopped his transmission as he heard a rustle coming from the forest a few feet away from him. He laid down and took out his AMP, and aimed at the moving. A soldier stumbled out of the brush and Hitman fired, grazing the man's leg. "HEY! WATCH IT HITMAN!" "Oops... sorry bout that Lance." "Well any sight of the incoming forces?" asked Hitman. "Yeah. After I got shot down, I saw the convoy moving towards us. I'm estimating they'll be here in five." "Your estimate is wrong bud. They're here now..."

Chapter 24: Last Stand?

"Hitman get on top of the wall. When the bulk of the convoy arrives, detonate those boomers and take out as many as you can. I'm going to go get another reaver," said Lance to Hitman. Hitman obeyed and ran up to the wall where he crouched and waited. Lance ran into the tech plant and up towards the control console. "Guys, they're coming!" "Crap! We've still got a good 20 minutes before our pickup arrives!" said Bismarck. "Well. Let's make our stand. If this is the last time we shall fight, then let's take as many as we can down with us!" said Lance. "YEAH!!!!" "LET'S DO IT!" came the shouts of the other squadron members. "Incoming!" shouted Hitman over the com. The convoy had arrived. "Suit up guys. Let's kick some ass."

Bismarck took his position in the phalanx turret, while Maverick, Crunch, and Kelly got in the prowler. Bismarck watched the road like a hawk, waiting for the vehicles to come into range. At last the first Vanguard wheeled into the range of his turret. He wasted no time, and began firing. Hundreds of bullets spewed out of the barrel of the turret, and dug into the Vanguard's thick armor. "Turret, top left!" shouted the tank driver. The gunner aimed and fired, missing the first two shots, but connecting on the third. Bismarck was thrown against the walls inside the turret, but he continued shooting. "Critical damage!! Bail bail bail!!!!!" said the driver. The opening hatch shot open and the pilot was propelled towards the ground, just as the vanguard lost control and it began to catch fire. The gunner struggled to get out of the main gun, but was too late. The Vanguard erupted into flames, sending a nearby basilisk into a tree and showering all nearby vehicles with shrapnel. "Got one! I'm getting out of here now, this thing's beaten up!" shouted Bismarck. Bismarck dove from the turret just as a shell slammed into it, completely knocking it from its hinges and into the courtyard. Bismarck sprinted towards the main door and successfully made it to the door without being hit. "They're closing in. 20 yards. 10 yards. They're here!" said Hitman. The remaining tanks and sunderers slowed to a stop, as troops bolted out of the buses. They ran towards the barriers that were placed by Lance and his crew and drug them out of the way. In their haste, however, they were unable to detect the boomers that were hidden under the dirt. The troops then began moving into the base courtyard. "You've got infantry coming up. I'll take care of the vehicles," said Hitman. Just as a squad of infantry had crossed the threshold, and the vehicles were starting to move in, Hitman pushed the detonator. A gigantic explosion came from seemingly nowhere, completely rocketing 2 Vanguards into the air, as well as tipping the sunderer onto its side and combusting another. Infantry flew into the air, while some were totally disintegrated by the blast. "HOLY SHIT! WHAT WAS THAT???!!!" came the shouts of the panicked soldiers. "CHECK FOR A CLOAKER!" shouted another. But Hitman was already running towards the air hanger, preparing to further booby trap the base. "OK COMPOSE YOURSELVES!" barked a Conglomerate commander. We've got another 50 troops coming in! It may be overkill, but these Terrans are smart! We're surrounding the base to prevent their escapes. All troops are ordered to terminate them on sight!" And what the commander said was true. Another convoy from Ekera had just arrived. The tanks and other vehicles set up their posts along the perimeter of the base. "Swift to Cent, is your convoy in position?" said the commander who had been controlling the first raid. "Yes. These bastards will not escape this time," responded 50cent as he emerged from his enforcer. "Even with the boomers, we still have 70 troops now. No way a squad of Terrans can beat that many of us," said Swift. "Yes, this looks excellent. But I do have one change in the protocol for this operation. I want them taken alive, so I can personally kill them," said Cent wearing his evil smile. "Uh sure sir," responded Swift. "All right! Line the walls, block the entrances! We storm in on my mark! The squads of NC fidgeted impatiently at the back and front doors. Each door was already hacked. "3..... 2.... 1.... Go-- What the hell?!"

Chapter 25: Alliance

A deafening roar came from the south. The early monring sky, which had been pale with faint light was now littered with black spots. The spots kept getting larger as the noise continued to grow. New Conglomerate soldiers began wondering what it could be. "What in God's name is that?!" yelled Swift. The noise grew to amazing proporitions. Suddenly blue streaks began coming from the black things. Soldiers immediately recognized what the black spots were. "Galaxes!!!!" yelled 50cent. And as he looked closer he realized that the galaxies were not blue and gold, nor red and black. "What the hell?!!!! Vanu Galaxies!!!!!!!!" Ten Vanu galaxies were approaching fast, dropping purple soldiers from their bellies. The soldiers weren't even waiting to touch down on the ground before opening fire. "THIS IS FOR OSHUR!!!!" "WE WILL NOT FORGET!!!!!!!!" shouted many of them, vengeance and hatred in their voices. Pulsar beams, lasher orbs, and lancer bolts tore apart some of the closer soldiers, who were by now panicking. "WHAT THE FUCK?!!! RETURN FIRE NOW!!" yelled 50cent. 50cent, who had a furious but defiant expression on his face looked upwards. His face contorted with fear though, as he saw a loadstar swooping down towards the courtyard. Suddenly a gigantic blue streak, bigger than the others dropped from the monstrous ship. Flux cannon orbs began crashing into troops, vehicles and the base. A thresher was falling from the sky. "CENT YOU WILL PAY FOR WHAT YOU DID TO OSHUR! WE WILL AVENGE OUR BRETHREN!" shouted a man standing on top of the falling vehicle firing a lasher. Cent looked through his scope. General Exarkun stared right back at him with fire in his eyes. "That man... IS CRAZY!!! I'm getting out of here!!! 50cent took off, running like a coward, orbs scorching the ground near him. The falling buggy finally neared the ground and set down rather softly, only to be torn apart by vanguard shells. But Exarkun was not done yet. He leaped off right as the vehicle exploded, and dashing up a stairwell, proceeded to surge along the outer walls, pegging troops with lasher orbs. He was moving with superhuman speed, anger, vengeance and a surge implant all inside him. He took down six troops easily and turned to look behind him. Suddenly he crashed into an invisble object and was sent flipping head over heels into the wall. "DAMNIT!" yelped Exarkun and another voice. Exarkun reached into the air and found what he was looking for. A decloaked red and black soldier lay before him. "Bloody hell! Get your mitts off me!" said Hitman. "Shut up. We're saving your ass, so I suggest you be a little more grateful." Hitman began to retort, but was stopped by the loud boom of a cannon. A 150 mm shell slammed into the wall beneath them, blowing Hitman into a nearby tree and rocketing Exarkun into the air. Exarkun flew 100 feet into the air, and began to fall again. Blood dripped from what used to be his arm, but was now nothing more than a nub at best. He screamed as he neared the ground, and clenching his teeth and closing his eyes, prepared for his end. Suddenly he felt a heavy metal object hit him in the chest and felt the sensation of being lifted. He reopened his eyes to see a Vanu MAX clasping him tightly. "Sir, you should be more careful. I won't be around to save you all the time," said Doop. Doop showered the area with Quasar shots and then touched down softly near a Sunderer. "We need a medic!" he shouted, before heading right back to war. Exarkun was moved inside a sunderer where a medic began healing him.

Hitman lay stunned, slumped next to a tree. He could vaguely hear gunfire from both sides as New Conglomerate troops fought against the advancing Vanu troops. A lancer bolt skidded into the ground near him, burning what was left of his infiltration suit. He staggered to his feet and attempted to cross to the backdoor. Bullets whizzed by him, as he dove for the door. Two shots hit him squarely in the leg, but he was able to crawl into the door. "Hit...man.. requesting help... backdoor-." He fainted.

The wall of purple troops had now entered the courtyard. Smoking piles of wreckage were all that remained of the New Conglomerate armory. "THIS IS OVER!!! GET ME A GALAXY, NOW!!" yelled Cent. One of the few remaining NC galaxies hovered above the northwest entrance to the base, which was luckily the only side not swarmed with Vanu. 50cent lept into the galaxy, along with Swift who was badly wounded by a magrider shot. A few sunderers and enforcers were left, and they were quickly filled by any scattered troops that managed to retreat. The vehicles took off swiftly, but many were pegged down by armor shots. An enforcer was nailed by a magrider bolt, upending it and sending it into a sunderer, igniting it and causing a massive explosion, completely obliterating several NC and Vanu troops that were nearby. The shredded NC invasionary force, now only 27 strong limped back west towards Gunuku, where they intended to call more troops to get rid of the Vanu.

As the last shots were fired, the Vanu cheered. They had only lost 20 something men, remarkable for how many they killed. Exarkun, whose arm was slowly being regenerated, led a few of his troops up towards the control console. As he reached the top of the stairs 3 shots were fired. Bullets dug into the metal cast on Exarkun's arm. Kelly stood holding the cycler, with a stupid grin on her face. "You're lucky that didn't hit me any place else. Anyway, Lance, as you may know Oshur was blown to pieces by a new weapon the Conglomerates have constructed. We are livid with anger at this, but fear that we could be whiped out permanently if they somehow manage to deconstruct the force fields surrounding our sanctuary island. I doubt we have enough men to take that weapon over, and we don't even know where it is. Realizing this, I decided to call what was left of my force to help you here. I am proposing a Vanu/Terran alliance. This weapon must be stopped." "General, I can not accept for the Republic, but I am sure once High Command hears about this, they will. I do know that there is a fortified outpost on Cyssor Mountain, which I believe controls the weapon. The weapon itself is a satellite, so the Congs must have rocket power. Anyway, my pickup should be arriving so--" Lance stopped midsentence as he heard the drone of galaxy engines. He looked outside and saw colors he hadn't seen in over three months. Red and black. Finally, he was going home.
