This might be relevant for the PS2 devs to consider. IF this article is accurate, EA is on the ropes, in a way, at least, and BF3 is vulnerable:

Perhaps it's better to take the safe route than the roulette wheel route? Last edited by Stardouser; 2012-04-16 at 01:05 PM. |

Yah i'd shit myself too if you could open the door and look out before dropping. Imagine being the pilot or the commander getting ready for the drop and you open the door in advance. But that's kind of a wish list fantasy thing.

I keep saying this, and I think developers are starting to figure it out: MMOs need to focus on the end game.. the pvp. Immersive PvP is what keeps people coming back for years and years. Playing against other players is just fun. It's like recycled content that never get's old. No one cares about killing NPCs, and no one cares about single player content in MMOs. There is a community of RPG gamers that like raiding together in games like Wow, but in my opinion, it is a much smaller community than the competitive RPG gamer that likes to PvP, and the FPS gamer (which is a lot harder to please) that bounces around from the BF games, to the COD games, to the gears of war games.. and on and on. Just look at how many people lined up to play on Ilum on SWTOR to have fun killing each other? and for what? There was NOTHING there. And now the game is dying. There's also the RTS gamer and there really isn't an MMORTS game out there (Hint hint developers). There is a whole market there not even tapped, or even a blend of MMOFPS/MMORTS, that's yet to be seen. And yet we see countless MMORPG after MMORPG games come out and utterly fail. I personally am an FPS gamer, but I'm also an RTS gamer, so I also love strategy, tactics, economy, etc. that add layers to the game. That said, I'm looking forward to D3 because it will be fun, but its not really an MMO. GW2 is looking like a great MMO with lots of PvP content, and of course, PS2 is going to be a prime target too. I also generally agree with most of the original poster's points.

I honestly think PS2 devs have their work cut out for them going up against GW2. If GW2 world PvP is successful the PS2 devs will really have to bring their "A" game to lure players in. We all want that immersive massive PvP experience that sucks us in, PS2 won't be successful by cutting corners. |

First and foremost, I agree with the OP.
Secondly, the moment I saw that you could aim down the sights in PS2 and they were making statements along the lines of, "Well this is equivalent to a standard Battlefield map" I knew immediately this wasn't going to be anywhere near the same as PS1. This is supposed to be PLANETSIDE. Not Battlefield: Auraxis. Personally I didn't like the idea of classes. Once again, this isn't Battlefield or Team Fortress. The cert system was a cool system and I liked it. Oh and lol @ kill cams in Planetside. And lol @ the developer that said, "Well it's not fun to get killed and not know where the enemy is so that's why the kill cam is in there." Yeah cool story bro, what ever happened to I don't know, being good? And thinking? And having skill??? And yes I liked the Exit/Enter animations. WTF is up with making the driver of a vanguard the main gunner? The whole idea of Planetside (at least to me) was about team play. Yeah I'm certed in Vanguard, I can drive it but I need someone to gun it for me and I would need a GOOD gunner. Otherwise I'm just wasting my time and I can't defend/attack effectively. But no, now someone can just run up get a vanguard and drive off without their teammates, cause who cares? I can control the main gun myself. Edit - I keep reading in the news that they're reporting that video game sales are down blah blah blah. I wonder why. They stopped making quality games a long time ago. Period end of story. We (hardcore not bitter planetside vets) are trying to help the Devs to keep the same spirit of the game we all know and love. All we can do is supportively give ideas and our feelings about their ideas, and hope someone listens.
We don't want a dumbed down game, I've played and left dumbed down games. So please keep constructive criticism going.

There is no more to be had. If a feature was deprecated, no matter how small, and was included in PS1 players will assume that the game is being dumbed down.
If gameplay has been changed players will assume it is to copy other FPS's. All the while they don't suggest ways that PS2 can be a unique game that is refreshing to see in today's markets. They only want PS2 to be PS1 with better graphics. Veterans are entitled to a game that "doesn't disgrace Planetside". Anything less and the game will fail before beta. Any change is opposed with routine stubborness, prejudices and assumptions. It's so predictable. I could make a thread under a new account how the H.A.R.T was so great and immersive. That I remembered all the good times knifing my squadmates while waiting to drop outside of a battle. In two hours the thread will be a giant circle jerk of how squad spawning is so BF3 and that the H.A.R.T was such a better mechanic. Just look at how many oppose holstering not being implemented. As if it really mattered if you could see the guns someone had in PS1 when every rexo carried the same loadout and before they were already firing at you. Where half their weapons were loaded in the inventory waiting to be hotswapped during battle. Here is a challenge to every bittervet out there. For every complaint you have about PS2 copying BF3 or COD, or PS2 being a dumbed down version of PS come up with an idea that has not been done in any FPS before, including PS1, that you would like to see implemented. I wouldn't mind if in the beta they are missing features like entering/exit animations because they are things that aren't necessary for testing more important features, maybe once it gets closer to the official launch date then it should be in it but for the mean time they need to make sure we can play without massive game breaking problems

By the way the title is misleading as it is not a fact but your opinion.
That said, I think it would be wise to just wait for beta and see how the systems they had in mind work out. I've been playing Ps1 since the start and enjoyed it immensely but it had its flaws which made my stop playing years ago. Therefore I hope they fix those flaws with systems from other games and just make a solid game we all can enjoy. And this entire discussion about vehicle animations is just sad. (Like saying you want to see bunnies hopping around so your ecology immersion gets sated.) I am sure they will add it once they get a steady cash flow from the game. My two cents. |
