Chapter 32: Conquest
32 Hours Later- "What's the status of your forces Exarkun?" inquired Batts. "We're just finishing up Itan now. Your troops really helped." "Great, we've taken the north and west. We can move on Gunuku shortly, and then the mountain." "Yeah, but we're in no hurry, that weapon won't be operational for another 40 hours." "That's true. Hell, call in for reinforcements, we got time." "Roger that. You know, I am surprised we didn't meet more resistance. I mean it was a tough fight, but I figured they'd have every man they could on this continent." "Yeah, strange..." "Anyway, I'll let you know when we're ready to rock. Exarkun out." The two commanders switched their com off and began briefing their respective factions. The past day had seen intense fighting, with heavy casualties on both sides. The reinforcements from Searhus had effectively bulldozed the southwest bases, leaving in their wake numerous corpses, and smoldering wreckage. They had moved on to aid the struggling Vanu in the east afterwards. Meanwhile, the Terrans had succeeded in the north, culminating in the capture of Faro about 3 hours earlier. The Vanu were moving at a slower pace, but nonetheless were still making progress. Cyssor now looked like a piece of modern art, three colors smeared all over it: red in the north and west, purple in the south and east, and blue in the middle, namely Gunuku. The battleplan now was to converge on Gunuku, taking surrounding towers, and finally the base. Then the Vanu and Terran, united, would march to Cyssor Mountain, where supposedly, a fortified "outpost," whatever that meant, stood, housing the controls to the "weapon." Batts and Exarkun both felt somewhat uneasy, as they were leading one of the biggest offensives in the history of Auraxis, based on information given by an ex-traitor and his friends. 'What if the weapon isn't there? What if it's been moved?' thought Batts. But there was no time for this contemplation. If the weapon was there, then it would be destroyed, if it wasn't, then they would be destroyed. Batts decided to shut himself in his quarters after giving his troops a brief rundown. But no sooner had he shut his door, then he received a call from Exarkun. "Be ready to move in one hour," he said flatly. Batts glanced at a clock. Midnight. "And so begins the day of reckoning..." he whispered softly. Last edited by Kikinchikin; 2004-09-12 at 05:08 AM. |

Back from the dead. . I've been thinking hardcore about the ending. I was gonna make that chapter more action packed, but I didn't want to water down the impending climax any, so I figured I would set the scenario up rather than throw in flashy combat details.

Chapter 33: The Day of Reckoning Part 1
12:57 AM Exhaust from the convoy of vehicles polluted the humid night air. Although there were thousands of soldiers running to their assigned positions, there was an eery silence throughout the air. Every soldier knew the magnitude of the events that were about to unfold. 12:58 AM The global coms of every soldier, both Terran and Vanu crackled to life with the voice of Batts. "All units be prepared to move in 2. God be with every one of you." The moist soil continued to become covered in vomit. 12:59 AM Bismarck waded in the clear water, making sure not to expose more than his mouth. Around him thousands did the same. Waiting and at the same time dreading that magical word that would set them in motion. 1:00 AM "Go." As if spurred by a school of pirhannas thousands of soldiers charged onto the beaches of Gunuku. Some tripped on the wet sand and were trampled to death by their comrades. Every soldier's heart was pumping to the point of explosion. 'Maybe they gave up on this base and we'll have smooth sai-' Bismarck's thought was interrupted as an explosion of gunfire met his ears. In the distance he saw a line of invaders be ripped apart. This would indeed be known as the second D-Day. Bismarck caught his first glimpse of one of the defenders, one of the frontlinemen, sitting in some kind of portable phalanx turret. It was almost as if their eyes met, because the turret's fire shifted directly at Bismarck that second. Bullet's kicking up mud and dirt all around him, he dove behind large tree. He could see the bark flying all around him, and could do nothing but pray that the ironleaved trees of Auraxis would protect him. Maverick and Frank tensed as they began hearing the first echoes of gunfire and shouts of pain. Riding 8th in a column of 50 prowlers, the force neared the bridge connecting the island to the mainland. Suddenly the undisturbed twilight erupted into a brilliant flash of light as flail orbs and decimator rockets began bombarding the advancing column. "Return fire!!!" shouted Frank. Maverick held down the trigger of his 100 mm cannon as hard as he could. Shells pumped out of the guns, destined to hit somewhere on the island. A flail orb slammed right into the prowler in front of Frank, shooting it up into the air a good 20 feet. It flipped onto it's side and collided with Frank's prowler, pushing it into the water. The electrical systems on the tank began short circuiting. "THROW IT IN REVERSE FRANK!" shouted Maverick. "Trying, I can't ge-" Frank's body suddenly convulsed violently as electricity ran through him. Maverick jumped out of the gunner's seath and, using his own striker, blew the tank door open. In shoulder deep water, he grabbed Frank's arm, and screaming in pain from his own shocks, slung the smoking soldier over his shoulder. Bullets splashed all around him, one burying itself into his thigh, but he did not stop. Maverick ran as fast as he could to the nearest AMS where overworked medics received Frank. Maverick collapsed onto his knee and turned to see the scene of carnage that lay before him. Bombs bursting in air, gunfire lighting up the tranquil sky, fire scorching the landscape, soldiers being blown away. Maverick wondered why all this had to happen. He turned his gaze towards Frank, who was unconscious, but in stable condition as medical applicators worked feverishly on him, along with traditional medics. He was then able to smile, not a grin, but a small smile. 'This war has done many atrocious things. It has killed millions, ravaged the planet, and breeded hate and greed in all of us. But it has done one thing good. It has bonded all of us like brothers.' Maverick turned his head back towards the fight, just in time to see the bridge explode in a gigantic fireball. Nurse Jane hurried along the hallway of the Nerrivik medical ward. Numerous patients groaned in pain, all victims of the Conglomerate surprise attack that impeded the Republic's march to Cyssor. She stopped in several rooms to administer medicine and IV's, and finally reached room 308. As she opened the door she was taken aback. An unoccupied bed stood before her. Used IV's hung limp at the side of the machine, moved only by the cold wind coming through a broken window. The nurse gazed out the window to see a set of footprints heading towards the SE tower, and a hospital gown hanging on a tree about 100 yards away. She hurried out of the room, slamming the door on her way out, causing the letters L-A-N-C to fall out of the holder on the door. |

Well since PSU is closing down, I guess I have to finish this story before it goes. I will make sure I have it done before then. If I find out that another site is being made from this one, or we're all migrating to another one, I'll copy and paste this over there for future enjoyment. But I will try my hardest to finish this story without abridging it too much.

Well pretty much this post just echoes the post above it. Only this time, it seems the closing is certain. I don't know if anyone who had interest in this story is still around anymore, but if so then read below.
I will copy and paste all of this story to a word document or something and make sure that it is preserved. I want to finish it sometime because I love this story and I feel it deserves a fitting end even with it's home closing. I haven't been to the syndicate forums in a while so I don't know if they have a place to post fan fiction, if they do I'll post the whole thing there. If not, then I will probably finish the story anyway and anyone who wishes to know the end of it can contact me via the following: AIM: Lilbird243122 Email: [email protected] Xfire: kikinchikin But assuming no one contacts me and there is no where on the syndicate forums to post this, then this will be my goodbye post as a writer on Planetside Universe. It has been an honor and a pleasure to write this story (as well as the little of my 2nd one that I did) for the community. I have learned a lot about my own writing skills, as well as critique from others. I've enjoyed leading you the readers on plot twists and turns, emotional moments and climactic battles, and I hope that you have enjoyed just as much, if not more, reading this story. So in closing, thank you all for supporting this story, I hope you have enjoyed it, and God bless. Long live Lance and long live PSU! |
