Not in the least. SOE really could have invited more people into the tech test based on their veteran status if they wanted to, regardless of how little good it may have done. Don't even pretend this was an impossibility. SOE instead has opted to get the next big client update ready before inviting more people in, and I'm inclined to believe Smed's latest tweet hints at there being more than simply a more stable, less buggy client too. Almost sounds like they're going to reveal something in tandem with the closed beta.

Re: Updated Beta Date

August or before August, either way I do not care. Currently at IETF in Vancouver and if the beta started this week I'd get fired from my job for playing PS2, instead of inventing the Internet. So I approve of bumping PS2 beta until after the IETF.

So clog up the already beleaguered team with more people wondering why they are having CTD and log-in problems?

Stability problems first, fan service second.

If you're pissed that you can't test a free beta as soon as possible then you should probably reevaluate your priorities. The beta could open a month from now and you would still have no right to be the slightest bit unhappy.

How many hints do you need?what does VET status have to do with this?

IT DOES NOT WORK AT THE MOMENT

The fact that they have pushed the beta back a week would seem to indicate they have a problem,no?
The answer would be yes by the way.
(Or it should be,in any sane mind)

Look, I can understand the why's: they want to present a more stable, finished product to us, THAT is the reason for the delay, but I can also come out and admit I want to play, and will not hesitate to call them out on the questionable definitions of tech testing and beta testing, with the latter looking more and more like your standard modern beta test, just with the caveat that people might be playing a specific way at times.

Basically, I'm not going to tell people they're being whiny and entitled while acting like I'm perfectly fine with waiting longer. That gets no one anywhere.

The only reason they're not inviting people in right now is because they no longer need that specific data, and are prepping for the next update. Inviting more people or not actually won't change a whole lot about that. It simply makes more sense to stick with the delay so people aren't downloading the client today, only for even more to be downloading possibly a big update friday. What I'm saying is they could have opted not to make people wait for a single download and let people in with the current client anyway. After all, we're expected to be beta testing to find these client issues anyway, RIGHT? Apparently, their plan was for the closed beta to be more of a finished product anyway.

Get what I'm trying to say now? The process and goals are still the same, regardless of what the test is called. However, they are in fact treating what they consider "closed beta" as more of a preview then they let on, and who can blame them? For the number of people they'll need to test the meta-game and mechanics, it will be like herding kittens!

There's no guarantee the beta client still won't have its fair share of crashes. How players generally go about beta testing or tech testing is literally no different. In this case, calling it a tech test is just indicating the stability of the client in general.

People aren't in there jumping for an hour because SOE told them to. They're simply playing the game, like normal, and suffering a few errors in the process. I'm damned sure people have stopped playing simply because of a crash or two. Additionally, I sincerely doubt SOE hasn't released micro updates to fix a good portion of the crashing issues in the process. I really, really, doubt it. They'd need to see if those crashes were fixed across all of the setups they brought in after all.

EDIT: Look, what I'm trying to say is, they could have invited us today, but felt we would be far more impressed with the build they plan to have ready by friday or monday than what they have now, obviously. If you really want to read between the lines: they invited as few people as they could get away with for the tech test, so that the real deal would feel like the real deal when they opened the flood gates, y'knowwhatI'msayin'?

The way I see it, if they're not confident enough to go into beta, then they shouldn't. There's going to be problems and bugs and polishing that needs to be done throughout beta (and beyond), but if there's an issue they have that's so bad they feel they cannot proceed into beta, then that problem needs to be taken care of first.

The dates we've been given have never been set in stone, so I don't see why a couple posts I read mentioned 'false promises' from SOE. This isn't the case at all, they gave out a ballpark date that would only come to fruition IF the team did not encounter any unforeseen problems.

Again, why do they need a "POLISHED" beta in order to start it? It's a beta test, we know there will be bugs? The only thing I can think of... is they DO in fact want to have a somewhat glorified demo. I mean, they already are taking a few pages out of the mainstream modern gaming book.

Note: I have faith in the dev team. But question SOE's PR agenda at the moment. I'm just playing devil's advocate here.

You are just being retard and playing with words. Ironic isn't it? Polishing could mean anything they want aka "who said it wasn't majors bugs?". You ask about delay. I tell you they found things to fix/polish and those things are big enough to delay said beta.

Exemple? Hey guys, this comp spec, and this one, and this one too cannot play with an acceptable framerate. It also crash at certain moment. We got a bug to fix and coding to polish.

-So now, tell me. What is the point in "testing" an unplayable game?
-If they got a big enough list to work on, why would you add more problems (and usually, just the same one over and over with people crying on top) before the older one are done?

Because children cry when they don't get what they want.

If we keep this up, we'll be back to "Soon" dates only for the entirety of the Beta cycle.

I'm just saying, they are having trouble getting the game to work with the people they have, they don't need anyone else.
