why do you need them?
They just take up more processing, memory and development time. I also do not see what value they add to an MMOFPS which is all about real people shooting other real peoples pixels. In Planetside 1 the players created the content and did it rather well. |

I'm against NPCs, but I am for giving players the ability to do those roles in owned areas. I did read something somewhere about commanders being able to give people "missions", maybe something along those lines for a small resource boost to the area.

I think NPC is the wrong term for roaming animal mobs or sprites...
If the devs can create factionless, "wild" mobs that are controlled by AI to roam around and respond to passing player characters... that would be awesome. I don't think it would be too hard to create a system that only spawned PvE mobs in places where there was very low player pop. Again, i'm thinking of those moments when traveling from one battlefield to another, and driving past a herd of gazelles. Or noticing a hippo just sitting in a river... At very least they could put in a couple of birds! Don't give me that line about wasting dev time. Let them decide if it is a waste of their time or not!!! I want a living breathing world to wage my destructive war across!!!!
