That's the thing, once pop starts dwindling it compounds itself, "I am not playing that game because people are not playing that game anymore". I think they are making a good short term business decision. Beyond that, who knows they have planned. Anyway we are getting off topic.

I fail to see how a sub model will keep populations longer. That just increases the barrier to entry and adds incentive to leave the game.
