Turrent has been around a long time as a common meme. I remember way back for Tribes, dork named Horka Thane thought he had 1337 turrent farming skills.

It's not archaic. It's simply incorrect. 'Turret' did not evolve out of 'turrent' as far as I'm aware

It's not an olde way of spelling the word.

Yeah, I just seem to recall someone telling me that once. I don't have any evidence.

I think it's often a typing error. You more often type words ending in "ent" than "et" so your fingers will insert the "n" on reflex if you're not paying attention.

Dictionary says the origin of turret comes from the Middle English word "turet" and the Middle French word "turete".

That's the classic association fallacy. Just because she's British doesn't mean it makes the spelling correct.

Ah very nice. I don't think anyone got into one of those during TB's stream, so this is refreshing.

Sorry, but on a scale of 0-10 it is sooooo much less annoying than "I could care less"
which has the exact opposite literal meaning of "I couldn't care less" which it seems to be replacing!

Things like this make it hard for those of us with a literal mind-set!

My buddy pronounces the word that way and drives me nuts, no matter how many time I correct him. As far as where it's from; I always assumed it was a misspelling that got its roots in before spell check enriched our lives.
