Would you have only 1 campaign, if so then who would lead the parade? Or would you have all three campaigns? What do you imagine the storyline to be like? |

I would say campaigns for all 3.
If you want to get into lore, start it around the beginning of the war and show the whole thing from the perspective of an officer, including options to branch on to the other factions. If you don't care as much about Lore, I would say make it something original. The threat would have to be something external, I don't think you could make one faction the "bad guys" as the lore is such, that there really aren't Bad guys in PS2, everyone is kind of filled to the brim with assholes. Could be some old alien rivals of the Vanu, could be some kind of vanu technology gone wild, could be the planet itself breaking down. Or heck, make it so that one side has figured out a way to actually KILL enemy combatants, so that they are not resurrected via Nanites. I think what would be more important than the story, would be the mechanics of how you translate PS2 chaos to a RTS game. I'd imagine some kind of RPG element that would cause troops to improve with time would be a must, troops would need to be relatively tough, and smart so as to survive engagements, and you'd need some kind of system by which no one Dies, yet the whole mess stays balanced. |

Since it wasn't exactly an entirely new game I don't see why it matters. It's using the same art assists, islands, and game engine as Far Cry 3. While Far Cry 3's story is serious mostly.. the game itself turns into a 1 man army.. universal soldier gameplay that is far from the survivalist style it comes off as early on. Anyway, I enjoyed Blood Dragon more than Far Cry 3 because it wasn't trying to be super serious.

i would play it, if it would try to reproduce the glory of planetside 1.
you know, it should try to give you the feeling of playing planetside at its peak in some epic battle. only with top notch graphics of course. and it should take all the cool stuff we did back in the days, and wrap its missions around them. like hotdropping with a team to hold a gen long enough for the troops to roll in, or having to sneak into a base to sabotage the radar, open doors for the maxes, do a surprise hack or hack terminals to draw a max and destroy the spawns. you know, all those lovely warstories the vets like to tell! if the game was a homage to those warstories, i would give it a try! the storys have so much potential for mission objectives. and the old game mechanics also have a lot of possibilities for storytelling! ntu level of a base? have to repair generator, terminals or turrets to stop the ntu drain, antruns with lots of enemys on your 6, discover the mystery of the just found cave and bring up the first charged module to turn the tide of a desperate battle, things like that! and you should have a squad of ai on your side, that takes orders from you. like in sw republik commando, but with a full squad or in some missions even a platoon. so while antrunning you could order your squad to escort you or try to organise a pickup. if it was just a cod or bf with scifi aspect, i wouldn´t play it.

Because it would be utter shit as a singleplayer game. It is the actual manifestation of being exactly opposite of what planetside is. If you want singleplayer, go play farcry or something.

how about a realtime strategy game?
but would be cooler if it was also a massive multiplayer realtime strategy game. could even be connected to ps2 someday like eve and dust514.

MMORTS games? So far no one has done it the way I would (and apparently most of everyone) would enjoy it. It has to be done to where:
-The player who can click the fastest does not automatically win given a strategy (starcraft) -Bases (if present) are available in the same game world and are not instanced -Resources and resource harvesters (if present) are available in the same game world and not instanced -Resources, bases, and resource harvesters can be destroyed (if present) -The map size is infinite and randomly generates as you go on (a la Minecraft) |

The planetside lore isn't good for a SP game. The war only started AFTER immortality was discovered. Before then, the Vanu were just a small cult and the NC were more of a lobbying group of discontents. It took the wormhole closing off (which happened after immortality) to cause the discontents to be even more discontented to incite a rebellion. The VS just sort of said "me, why not?" and did so as well.

1) I would play it.
2/3) No faction should have the only protagonist. You should play 3 intertwining campaigns as all 3 factions. Make it clear that each faction has a blend of both good and bad motives. The actions and choices made in one campaign should have a noticeable on the other campaigns. The net sum of all the players decisions should be the deciding factor in which faction wins out in the end. |

I would have to say though, this is the first MP game that has held my interest longer than two months. So, to the OP, yes I would play a SP version. |

Know what I would actually play? A Planetside game set in the far future after The Bending of the first Ps1 game. Set it up like that Empire at War game, with space battles and ground based RTS. Make the Space Battles more Homeworld like (True 3d), and the ground ones perhaps like DoW2, but on a much much larger scale. (So Dow1 without base building, since it would be a droppodded in army vs the planetary garrison)
This may just be me projecting a desire for another EaW but still. :P Last edited by Silent Thunder; 2013-05-15 at 08:55 PM. |
