However, it's different coming from an NC, which are primarily a bunch of mercenaries and civilians. Given that Mbroome crafted the Sci-fi Shemagh, I'm sure he can come with a synthesis of modern military and fashion styles. Given those two conflicting perspective, there will also be TR who'd want something more casual and there will be NC that will want something more formal. So, the Devs really have to balance between lore and wants of players. |

clownside 2 has already been retardified a lot. so there is no reason any more to not include hotdog hats, unicorn masks and penis visors. we already got stupid facemasks, oversizes busdriver hats, fireworks guns and giraffe camos. i wonder if t-ray would have allowed so many bad silly style-breakers in the game, if it was pay to play? but now it´s too late, go ahead and throw silly hats in, as many as you like, the damage is already done and beyond repair.

honestly i'd like no-hat heads and heads with haircuts.
as it happens i think they could benefit greatly from lots of cosmetic options for girls also. camo mini skirts and tank tops. and this isn't coming from me. it's coming from the girls i know that play. just saying. in a feedback sort of way. |

The "Weiner Hat" should be mandatory for anyone who reaches CR5 .... so the rest of us readily know who to shoot at. ....on a more serious note, I think people who "rage quit" a GAME have issues bigger than the rest of us. Some "cosmetics" are a little over-the-top ...... the classic Catch-22 is that as far as I can tell ..... COSMETICS appear to be the runaway Best-Seller in the PS2 Stores. Like-it-or-not, the PS2 Coummunity as a whole has brought it on us. I could not care less if a guy runs by with an Abe Lincon Stovetop Hat & clown shoes. Personally, it would be immensely entertaining. If 90% of the PS2 Pop dressed this way ..... that might make me think I was on a bad acid trip. If it could be limited to 3% of the POP - absolutely fine. However, balance is key to any game. Personally, I don't think I'd like PS2 if 90% of the Pop looked like the Insane Clown Posse. However, after a while .... it too would fall to the wayside as something new & different was offered...... Perhaps offer some more "extreme" cosmetics, but make the prices rediculously high. Wanna "look" liike a clown ? .... pay out the ass ..... so the purists can know you paid a redonkulous price to become a bullet magnet. Me ? I believe in choice & freeedom of expression. I also recognize people often don't know when to stop. We are our own worst enemy. Overall, I don't care cuz I have a twacked sense of humor. I would love to see a guy with a peg leg & pirate hat mixin' it up in a big tower fight. For me, I'd rather break the monotony with some Monty Pytonesque humor .... rather than be trapped in a non-ending treadmill of accurate apparell & battles over the same real estate .... over & over & over & over & over. It's what killed PS1 for me. It took 2 years, but the monotony of gameplay turned me off ...... and dumb ass CR5's, and the MASS Hysteria over the ill-conceived BFR,..... I still think PS2 Devs have thus far missed a Great Game improvement mechanism: MODULAR BASES. Make it so the Devs can cut & paste from dozens of different building/base configurations. Break bases into comparmentalized sections that the devs can swap-out & switch from time-to-time. This way, they can alter the layout & flow of bases from just perhaps some different stairwell placements - to the entire internal flow of the base being close to 100% tweaked. They can slowly build dozens & dozens of different section that they can cut & paste and paste in and out of any base to change the look, flow, and location of terms, SCUs, door, stairs, ....... Hell, rotate the damn base 90 degrees quarterly. That alone should alter fights to varying degrees. Repetitive environments - lead to repetitive game mechanics - leads to BOREDOM. . Well I'm glad to see a debate happening about what to do about hats. I didn't really give a detailed opinion of what I think though I probably tipped my hand somewhat with this thread.
I'm not crazy about the skull masks or the spike helmets. I proposed the hats I did because I felt like they could be made to fit with the game. NC rockin' cowboy hats? I'd be disappointed if I didn't see that. King Vanu bestowing upon his disciples a fedora? He IS the art director and while the customer is always right, there's something to be said for a creator putting their own special mark on their own creation. If it were up to me I would never have put in the crazy spike and mask helmets. I would keep the game's aesthetic "military sci-fi" and I would not turn it into something like TF2 where silly is king. But just because a game has hats does NOT make it silly nor does it make it TF2. TF2 is its own thing, it's aesthetic styling is fundamentally silly. I'd argue that PS2 is not at all silly and I'd wager 500 station cash that it never will be. Some of the cammos that have been released push the envelope, but for the most part the game has a very common theme to it and I think the NS pistol model is the best balance. It's basically what Chaff has suggested above, charge an arm and a leg for silly things while keeping the regular aesthetic upgrades in a more reasonable price range. Even then I still admit to some reservation about that idea. It would be a bit jarring to see a clown pop up in the middle of a sea of heavily armed soldiers. Taking the temperature of the thread I'd say that for the most part, people don't want that. Some people want virtually no cosmetics while others, like me, want only the ones that stick with a theme. And still it seems a few might not mind a bit of silly here and there. There's obviously an argument to be had about "how much is too much?" Is a Bicorne hat too much? It's a military style hat (albeit dated). You see, I think it looks silly worn across the shoulders (left) but kinda badass when worn over the eyes (right). While on the left I think it would be ludicrous to see a heavy assault storm in wearing one yet on the right I might even consider grabbing one for my own valiant charges. It would certainly be cool if it was locked to some sort of command rank. Anyway, that's where I'm at. |
