Actually there's a few academic journal articles about the need for more money in politics. Though I'm sure you'll disregard my comment with out looking up any of the arguments because after all politicians are all corrupt thieves.

Whenever politicians are involved it's never about the costs suffered for the people who put them there, but how much money they are losing because society says no to them. |

It passing is still a real possibility imo - it's important everyone know about it because it destroys the internet as we know it. These morons' haven't a clue about how the internet functions they just care about kids downloading MP3 files and are willing to break the entire internet in order to support their agendas. Gryphon's link is good news though we may yet see some sense talked into these people because listening to some of these guys talk about DNS made my head explode they haven't a clue. Now.. on to NDAA.

id this bill passes, and the first forum is shut down because a random idiot put up a torrent, i can foresee, what will happen...
talking about virtual warfare... just remember what happened, when sony aggravated some hackers... now imagine what will happen if someone more or less tries to shut down the internet as we know it. the us gouvernment will face a rough time when all hackers unite to fight this bullshit. we have seen, that those hackers dare to risk their freedom for much less than internet censorship, they will not be impressed by the fact that its the us gouvernment, they are fighting. i hope those politicians are bright enough to realize that threat and all the consequences it will bear, and stop this stupid bill |

Seriously guys, whats the hasssle?
For the off chance of this bill passing through, servers will just be moved to somewhere else. Quite a few ISPs and hosters in Canada and Mexico are watching this very closley. If this passes, they will upgrade their stuff as quickly as possible, giving everyone the choice to just host stuff there. Google will move their stuff elsewhere as well. And if nessesary, relocate their entire business. Only a few morons not understanding whats going on will get in trouble, the actual crowd will just laugh, move their stuff, and laugh again. It will just hit a good bunch of hosters based in the US. They will go down, and thats it. Oh, and Shogun, about those hackers stuff: Anon, as well as a whole bunch of yet unknown groups, watch this closley as well. And if this bill passes, and gets executed, i forsee the first Internet based Civil war in history. THAT will be fun to watch. |

I really hope the rest of the american political system will com through on this one even if Congress doesn't - the Supreme Court has upheld less obvious principles as freedom of speech. This particular bill totally doesn't do anything to solve the actual job, and although there's no proof that anyone is currently trying to censor anyone or anything, given the ability, it's only a matter of time before someone will try. So all in all, I've called my congressmen (both House and the two Texas senators) multiple times about this and written letters to all three - you've got my vote against this cause.
And on a side note, it's slightly amusing how much this bill reinvigorates the "Texas should secede" attitude around here, lol. EDIT: Also, I really hope Obama finds the balls to veto this shit if it reaches his desk.
