That's fine if people have choice but for me, playing a fps with a high enough ping is not worth. I much rather have a east coast server so I can play without being fuck over by lag.

As a European who plans to play this game with his american friends i'd actually like to see something like this implemented, it sucks if for 50% of the time i'm playing the severs will be dead.

having one single global server would suck for just about everyone not near the server
also as far as broadband and internet infrastructures have improved the ping has not (or barely) i get the same ping now with my broadband (in ps1) as i did when planetside 1 first opened (from australia 200-300ms ping) im still hoping for an australian or oceanic server |

Although I like the idea of global servers (only because I live on the US west coast so I'd be pretty close to the servers), we know that SOE has partners for "distribution" in both Europe and China... so global servers simply won't happen.

I don't know how the extra ping from EU to NA will affect the gameplay in Planetside 2. I can't make a decision before I know that, but I would prefer a NA / Global over a EU server because I have insomnia and for the most part don't play during EU primetime.

Hell no to global servers, unless SOE have somehow managed to exterminate the bad effects of lag in video gaming. if you want a server thats active 24/7, play on a US west server.

Thread is moot, this has been somewhat settled months ago. Do not try to back peddle on an important issue. There was already so much fire and brimstone about region locked servers back then.
If you want to play with your Euro friends and your Merickan friends at the same time you're all gonna be playing either on East US or somewhere in England. Gobal servers are notoriously bad idea still for the the two reasons people have brought up here already. 1) Bandwidth does not effect ping. Tested by my brother in Taiwan, 100 mb/s connection and still getting 200+ Ping to US West coast servers. 2) China. Seriously not the only ones that cheat, but definitely the least discreet about it as well as the most unapologetic too. |

As for Aussies, pension your government to stop being such a massive bunch of fascist prudes about the internet and you'll likely see an decent increase of interest from the various internet and video game companies in your country.
Either that or be like that guy from Zero-Punctuation, "think of it as the We have the nicest beaches tax". Last edited by Kran De Loy; 2012-06-11 at 05:38 AM. |
