Hmmm, or maybe their plan is to have us pre-order up until xmas then 2 days later while everyone's enjoying their xmas gifts, ** BOOM! PS2's official release **

This of course will inevitably cause massive unemployement since we'll all be unable to remove ourselves from our computers to do any sort of productive real life work thus leading to termination of our employment. SOE knows this and they know once we're unemployed we'll just sit around playing games for hours on end... Man they're evil!!

There is no way the game will be released by then, beta maybe!!! Good find but could be meaningless.

Yeah I really wouldn't want PS2 to be released that quickly, but for beta or perhaps the date of the next trailer, that'd be cool.

Very interesting find. We may be grasping at straws, but it is an interesting coincidence. I mean technically the devs havn't ruled out a 2011 release yet.

This does vaguely remind me of something that Lucasfilm did with one of the Star Wars prequels. At one point, there were rumors of Christopher Walken being cast as a Sith. Just then Lucasfilm released some art and some background story about a "Darth Bane", but the interesting thing is that the file names for the pictures were Christopher Walken character names like "maxshreck.jpg". Obviously, this just turned out to be a red herring, so I hope SOE just isn't messing with our heads.

One of the things this Close Inspection has lead me to discover is that the rifle has a rail mount on the top, remarkably like those on modern assault rifles.

Customization indeed.

Very cool find. It does seem to early for a release, perhaps that's the date they're shooting for with beta?

Makes sense for them to hide it in a picture. I'm sure they have something planned for that date, if they were to officially say such, then missing the date due to delays it would result in a tsunami of "wtf matt, where is the shit you said was coming on 12-07-2011" mails. By hiding it they can just deny it if they miss the date, and in the mean time it gives nerds like us a date to circle on our calendars. Good eye to everyone who saw this (not just the guy who thread posted about it).

I find it strange that I haven't seen anyone consider a few things yet.

1.) From my understanding, they were attempting to release/beta PS2 around Spring time this year.

If they were attempting to go into Beta this year, they've got a large majority of the game flushed out. Presumably the new team would break open and address some specific things and add a bunch of new features, but not to the extent of a massive rewrite or anything.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were ready for beta by December.

2.) When looking for a finishing touch for the gun one of the artists could have easily selected a loved ones birthday to attach to it instead of a random number. I've seen this happen plenty of times.

Of course, everything is speculation.

Yeah, anybody that was lurking the forums here when the Producer's Letter was like 1 week late and saw all the screaming and clamoring (myself included) would take that as a sign that SOE might be conservative about announcing a release date.
