Guys, of course their going to come out with a better trailer. Stop raging on the video they gave us and look forward to the next one. It just might be a trailer showcasing all of us in beta. |

Indeed! And thanks RadarX for the post
I agree with Senyu - there is no need to rage on the trailer. It does not suck and if people are so narrow minded to turn away from PlanetSide 2 because of the first trailer they ever released well then good riddance. We know more is coming.. we have seen voiceovers getting recorded in some kind of SOE studio so it's just a matter of time. |

I never saw a single Planetside video that managed to capture the scale of the games battles, when recording you realise you're only seeing a small amount of people on your screen. I really wish there was a way to have 1000 players on the screen at once and it being natural for PS2.

I don't think it still could really do the trick. Even if you manage to show enough of one battle, you still need to cover the idea that this isnt some instanced battleground, this is a planet-wide war. The guy driving the ANT to keep bases up is important too, he may be kilometers off that battle.
The CE/FDU engi that is bolstering the neighbourbases defences is damn important too if the attack fails and they need to retreat and get attacked instead. I've spent a lot of times trying to figure out how to shortly show the scale of the game in like max 5 min video, but it always leaves something to desire. Planetside is just a game you need to experience. Showing the stuff Senyu suggested is done by many games out there, for example BF3. But this game is nothing like BF3, you know It would REALLY have to catch the grand scale of things. WTB "Incoming MAX units!" from T-Ray

This is one of the best PS1 vids that does a really good job at showcasing the game! Not certain it shows scale much but something with this same format that does show scale for a PS2 vid would be the shit.... Always loved it and get chills every time I watch it!

1. Base (VS apm station) under seige by TR, TR cannot get into the CY. Lots of people and projectiles going every which way. VS AA maxes shooting up into the sky with long plasma trails. 2. My outfit (*running an event) roar in with 25--30 reavers ... blasting the base. 2. Red October do a double gal drop onto the roof -- which gets orbed and the droppers land. OK. It was PS1 and that small episode in the vid did show truly massive gameplay that PS was all about. One of the jaw-dropping moment. But I wonder, unless you actaully played PS and already understood the game, could you view the scene described above and really comprehend? |

nah the trailer is ok and keep it to show evolution. It will soon fade once new media releases go online and focus switches. I also agree with the sentiment that anyone who does not try a game (free to play) because of the first trailer should be banished to COD IXIIVMM forever.

I can't help but be reminded of what T-Ray said during the Fan Faire when the trailer was first released. He told us that after awhile we would be wondering why they ever released that trailer because the game was going to be looking so much better.
Well, here we are. Considering the pics we've seen so far, I'm really looking forward to the next trailer. |

The trailer isn't brilliant and it doesn't capture the scope of the game, but it does get across a little bit of the feel of the game. It's only really a letdown for people who know PS1's scale and awesome potential. People who don't know Planetside are going to look at it and either think "cool, I'll keep my eye on this thing" or "Meh, not interested." In the case of the latter, their mind may change when they see another trailer in the future. The game isn't going to succeed if nobody sees the newer trailers. Hopefully they can do something really impressive and it will go viral. At that point, it wont matter if somebody was unimpressed with the original trailer. On the other hand, if nobody watches the new trailers, it won't matter how good they are or how well they represent the game. They need to be viewed to be effective. So no, the trailer really won't hurt the game. Just think of it as filler for the time being. A bit of basic game assets in motion to offset the static screenshot images. Really, that trailer isn't a horrible representation of Planetside either. Aside from being an extremely early development build, that could easily be one of the common, smaller fights in Planetside. I know we all want to get the word out about the most important, most unique aspect of Planetside 2, it's huge scale, but it doesn't have to be all about that 24/7. Some people may get interested in it just because it's a sci fi shooter. |

You're forgetting that the average Joe Gamer is going to completely shrug something off if the first thing they see isn't mind blowingly awesome. |
