This is correct, and does not change anything. Having a Cockpit view party obscured VS. someone who does not does grant an advantage.

Everyone needs to be playing the same game.

This is similar to PS1's ground foliage problem. It was nice to turn on, and since my PC could handle it I wanted it on, but everyone turned it off because it got in the way.

People with a cockpit view are obviously at a disadvantage, it's a smaller field of view. If it was an optional thing, anyone with a competitive mind set (which should be everyone) will just turn it off. Immersion is nice but it doesn't trump performance
QFT.

It's not imaginary. The presence of the cockpit obstructs vision. Allowing some to opt out of it gives those who do an advantage over those who don't. And its a significant advantage of at least 25-30% more visibility. It's particularly advantageous against ground targets/threats. That's why it could be an intentional balance decision.

The only mistake I believe the PS2 devs made is showing us flight without the cockpit. If it was always there we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

I too support forcing it, as it makes a game more immersive and can be a balance issue between aircraft. I don't like to put bias in the original post with polls.

Hopefully all ground vehicles will offer them same thing. Driving a harasser in 1st person was fun, but never the smart choice. If it is the only option, it will be more appreciated.

Are you people batshit insane?!
Can you IMAGINE the teamkills?

MAYBE. MAAAYBE strict third person for SMALL AIRCRAFT and ATVs.
But that's it. No more. If we've got 1st-person sunderers and (egad) third person galaxies rolling and flying around, expect to become a pancake very, very soon.

If there's a cockpit view, it should be forced in my opinion. Pilots that have it off will have an advantage VS those who do not. The simple answer is "turn off the cockpit view newb." Why even have it if that's the case.

SuperMorto, I think you misunderstand the question. Should the Cockpit graphics be forced IN first person, or should you be able to hide it.

Think Grass in PS 1.

Ahhh yes I see what you mean, the question is the cockpit graphics?.... Well even this I think should not be forced, but for a different reason than most of you. I know how important a clear view from an aircraft will be for video/film makers when PS2 is here. But I do agree that in the cockpit you should always see the controls so no one person has any advantage, so I suggest being able to disable UI, cross-hair and Control graphics** with the F10 key, so if you have it all turned off then you cant shoot.

This is the only reason i though about having a nosecam style view for aicraft too...

Floating cam is awesome for machinima. Perhaps they can sell a nosecam view attachment from the cash shop ;p

Forced. I do get the logic of having third person for parking/,manuevering tight spaces, but that is what practice is for. I think forcing it is an excellent addition to separate the expert from beginners.

I want to be able to bring a galaxy into a tight spot and feel like I have reached a pinnacle because I know how to fly.

Have you seen my streams? I can fly a any aircraft and land any aircraft with a lot of skill. The point is this is a fast paced game, and when you have a full platoon waiting for you to land, 3rd person makes it so much smoother. And I'm sure they all wont clap their hands when you park between the 2 big trees. But I'm sure as hell they will have your life if you hit on of them and the thang gans pop!!

This isn't Microsoft Flight Sim, this is war and time is essential.

Also (now we are off topic a little) its occasionally nice to be able to see your vehicle when your flying/driving it. I like to see them, they look amazing. Look how many times Higby used 3rd person in the GDC video.

Sorry to change topic a little.

The way I'd like to see it handled would be:

1. Cockpit on, look around enabled, more info on instruments.
2. Cockpit off, greater forward visibility but forward view is locked.
3. Not a fan of 3rd person, but I don't have a problem with them putting it in for the noob pilots.

Definitely forced. I think it will improve immersion. If you had a choice, you would have to choose between immersion and a slight advantage, so just make it mandatory.

Forced, with all head tracking and free look technologies supported, now that there is a cockpit it just would be silly to not include head tracking.
