I just want to make it clear that the AGN is not from Sony.

This is a PSU work of fiction just like the Triumvirate. The AGN is a "concept" with a storyline attached to justify it's existence. This project was conceived by PSU and intended to be a community based and supported venture. What we do with it is up to us as a community. How much we all participate will determine it's future.

its a great idea but ahh i dunno. would be cool if you heard live feeds whe in-game. they could be like "reports of certain base under attack" and you could bring your outfit in there to help out. something weird like that.

Well that's not entirely impossible. I know tribes players who listened to shoutcasts of the match they were in while they were playing it. Only problem is most shoutcasts are delayed 40-60 secs behind the actual action due to buffering. I would think that would be distracting while playing myself, but if you wanted to listen I suppose you could. Remember the idea of shoutcasting is to provide entertainment and not to give any team an unfair advantage. Shoutcasters usually make special efforts to be impartial and not to reveil tactics or positions within the game.

It is an outstanding idea, from more than one point of view.

As with the Gulf War news coverage on news channels, you could flash reports on conflicts in the area, so you know where to go to for action. Secondly, I guess because everyone on the entire server wants to participate in the big news evenets there'd be much more enthusiasm about fighting, about your faction and your division. You'd mourn your losses and you'd celebrate your victories much more than other simple teamgames.

Potentially, from a gameplay pov, shoutcasting could impact posetivly on faction territory balance issues. If the radio reported more on the more on a successful faction, valueable information on locations and battles for instance would give the underdog factions an intelligence advantage. Those players listening in would know where and what to fight

And also it'd be cool if succesful individuals on the server could become famous amongst their faction and infamous amongst their enemies. There would be the potential for celebrities to surface, VIPs, targets for the enemy.

I also reckon the strive by players to participate in persistent world mass media would drive the content pretty well. And the constant feed of information would focus gamers attentions inwards more towards the conflict as opposed to "fraggin' the next llama".

I'd love to see it in the finished product. Its a unique game element for MOGs.

:O: Wow I have to say, i really like this idea. I also like some of the other ideas people have shared to make it work even better. I think another way to do it would be in-game news stations (if the devs agreed of course). A kind of terminal that you go to for news. Whether it's audio, video, or just text it could be a daily or bi-daily news of the day. There's also the possibility of emergency broadcasts or something of that nature for base attack notices.."Such and such base is under attack by Vanu forces, all available reinforcments please respond." That kind of thing.

Just my 2 cents

Marsman, you might want to try to ask Sony if they like the idea. They might either pay you, or at give you support in doing this. They might evn put up a staff to help you,.....or they might just brush it off of their shoulder...

Any direction it goes, I believe that this is a great idea. My friend and I were talking just a few days ago about trying to start something along these lines, and I'm extremely happy that you are.

I would like to know if there is anything I could possibly help with. I'm only an ok writer, so I doubt I would do any of that, but once the game comes out, I would gladly help in reporting stories.

This seems like a really interesting idea, a couple of things might hamper you though.

1.) Shoutcasting is rather bandwidth intensive, even doing it at 40/22 it takes up quite a bit if you get a good number of listeners, and if you plan on having a stream for each server that would take a huge amount.

2.) Staff. It's tough to find people who actually sound good on the radio. As easy as it may seem, some people just dont have the voice/proffesional attitude/talent.

That said, it sounds like a great idea, and if you can overcome those hurdles I think it'll be great.

Thanks for the post. Well if anyone knows what it takes, you folks do for sure. Networks such as TsN, WSBN, etc... have set the standards for this project and it's just following in your footsteps. With such a large potential community, I'm sure talent is out there and getting it all put together is without a doubt going to be difficult. I didn't envision AGN to be a singular effort - rather it's more of a storyline concept to account for shoutcasting within a MMOFPS environment. I hope that we will eventually have many supporters diversified throughout the community with AGN acting as a portal to those resources. AGN is in it's utter infancy - we'll just have to see where the road takes us and who wants to come along for the ride. Again - thanks for commenting.
